Will Health Be An Issue?

This is going to be a shorter post than the mini-novels that I usually write. Let me explain.

Around a month ago, I sanded down my BBQ deck to re-stain it. It was a bigger job than what I had expected – 3 days for a 10’ by 10’ deck plus steps & railing. The deck wasn’t in the greatest of shape to begin with, so being the engineer, I wanted it to be “perfect.” Big mistake…

After a couple of days of the hands being numb and tingly (bordering on pain), I went to the doctor. The problem – Carpal Tunnel.

Crap…

The past month has been spent with splints, hot and cold packs, and a little therapy. I’ve purchased ergonomic computer equipment (vertical mouse and keyboard) so I can continue working, and this all seems to help somewhat. The pads of the fingers are still numb & tingly, but not as bad. The next step will be cortisone injections into the wrists (ouch!) to try and reduce the condition, but will most likely end up with surgery.

Double crap…

But at least I will still have my health, even though my activities will be curtailed somewhat.

You are probably asking yourself, “So what does this have to do with the title of the post?” So glad you asked! (if you didn’t, that’s OK – I’m taking a literary license to move the post along.)

Over the recent weeks, the presumptive Presidential nominee for the Democratic Party, Joe Biden, has been displaying very disturbing behavior during interviews & speaking events. In my opinion, Mr. Biden has some form of Dementia and probably Alzheimer’s Syndrome. Losing his train of thought in the middle of sentences or topics, and trying to cover it up by becoming belligerent & combative are signs of these conditions.

Now I’m not a doctor, but I have some experience with this – my Father.

Last October, I had to place my Father in assisted living as he was no longer able to take care of himself. His meds were all mixed up, which led to him having a temporary break with reality. My Father is a kind-hearted person, and it was a shock for me to see such a change in behavior. Fortunately, I was able to place him in an assisted living apartment quickly, his meds were adjusted properly, and several months later, he is fairly stable. But he loses his train of thought within minutes, and his memory is not the greatest – he is losing all of his memories of me growing up, and doesn’t remember who the members of my family are. It is hard to see a man who never smoked or drank in his life in such a condition.

Now Joe Biden is not a nice person – looking at the recorded history on YouTube of his confrontations over the years only shows that he is a combative person, ready to verbally beat down anyone who contradicts him. It doesn’t matter if what is says is true or not, just as long as he humiliates his opponent.

This is not a person that I would want leading this country, memory issues or not. His stated positions and the policies of his party are completely at odds with what this country should be standing for. The dementia and Alzheimer’s only adds to the problems that he would bring to the highest political position in the country.

This means that the Democratic Vice Presidential candidate will be very important as it will be that person that would most likely complete a Biden Presidency. And from what I can see, none of the candidates mentioned thus far on the “short list” are electable.

This is, of course, that the Democrat Party doesn’t grow a brain & common sense and replace Biden with another candidate. But who?

Bernie would immediately raise his hand and state loudly that he came in second in the primaries, so he should be the nominee. The Democratic Party leadership would most likely tell Bernie “no” because there is no way in hell that they would have Bernie – he would be unelectable – and the Bernie supporters would rebel.

Anyone else that was on the debate stage with Biden and Bernie drew abysmal numbers among Democratic voters. So I think that the Democrats are stuck with Biden and whoever his VP pick is.

As stated before, I do not believe that the VP nominees, all reportedly female and mostly Black (there are a couple of non-Black women being considered) are electable. All of the candidates have baggage, and the Trump campaign will use that information to the maximum effect.

Quite frankly, Biden put the Democrat’s in this box when he stated that his VP candidate would be a woman, and was presumed to be Black. I think his statement was not scripted by the Democratic leadership, and limited the VP candidate selection. I don’t know what Biden was thinking – or maybe he was thinking that he needed to have someone female around to smell their hair…

Be safe, and be well.

Hyper-Virus?

Almost two months has passed since I’ve last posted something, and it’s been a struggle to find time to write. It certainly hasn’t been for a lack of topics!

The big thing now is the Corona Virus, which the media (more on that later) is telling us has a 1% to 3.4% mortality rate (sources and mileage vary). While this doesn’t seem like much, if you run the numbers of roughly 350 million people living in the United States, a 2% mortality rate (I’m being generous) translates to 7 million people!! While the very young and the older generations are most at risk (undeveloped and weak immune systems), that’s still a lot of people!

The media and Socialist Democrats are blaming President Trump for not taking action quick enough, or not doing enough, or something. Personally, he might have done more, but I don’t see how because he has been opposed politically by the Socialist Democrats and criticized constantly by the media no matter what he does. I do imagine that he is relying upon experts in their respective fields to take the appropriate actions.

When this crisis first started, flights from Asia (China) were restricted. Then, when Europe started becoming a Petri dish, flights from Europe were restricted. The President’s critics cried “foul” stating that this wouldn’t contain the virus to Europe, but rapidly quieted down when European countries began closing their borders and their own countries down to halt the spread of infection.

Now, let’s be realistic – the Corona Virus will come to the United States (it’s here already), people will become infected, and their will be casualties. What closing the borders (walls, restricted travel, etc.) will do is slow the spread of the virus, giving our health providers and resources time to study the virus, and to develop better ways to treat the victims and better protect the healthy.

That is the sane, rational course of action – something the media and Socialist Democrats know very little about.

The Socialist Democrats look at this to gain more power for their cause and to diminish that of the President. The criticism that the President has had to endure is absolutely uncalled for in the face of this crisis. While working on legislation for releasing funds and resources for combating the Corona Virus, the Socialist Democrats of the House tried slipping governmental funding for abortion into the bill. And then after the bill was submitted to the Senate tried leaving DC stating that their part was done. Obviously, the Socialist Democrats of the House are not concerned with the health and well being of the Citizens of the United States.

The Media reporting is not news, or at least, not very much of their content is news or useful information. When there are endless panels discussing the topic of the day with “I think” and “I believe” qualifiers in their statements, that’s entertainment, not news or information. This is for ratings points, which translates into revenue for the Media. Unfortunately, the Stock Market failed to discern the difference between opinion/entertainment and news/information, and went for a massive tumble based on the hysteria ginned up by the Media.

Now I’m not stating that there isn’t a problem – I believe there is – I just think that the Media is over-hyping the problem, and causing more issues than what there should be. Think Sargent Joe Friday “Just the Facts, Ma’am” and you’ll see where I’m going with this. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have empty shelves where toilet paper would normally be stocked.

That’s all for now. Hope it’s not another two months to the next post…

What Negotiation?

Last week, President Trump put forth a proposal to address the issue of children of illegal immigrants that were brought into the United States. His proposal included the following:

  • A path to citizenship for 1.8 million “Dreamers” that would last 10-12 years that includes qualifying criteria
  • Full funding for “The Wall” and border security
  • An end to unrestricted Chain Migration
  • An end to the Visa lottery system
  • Enforcement of the E-Verify system
  • Limits to Immigration to include a merit-based system
  • Ending sanctuary cities/states

Of course, Democrats are losing their minds calling it “racist,” “un-American,” and a variety of other things that I care not to repeat here. But let’s really take a look at what is proposed:

A Path to Citizenship: The number of people proposed is staggering, and far more than what the Democrats have insisted be included in any immigration deal. It’s not a done deal – the proposal floats qualifications such as showing merit (i.e., being a productive citizen, law-abiding, not a Welfare recipient, etc.) as well as a waiting period of 10 to 12 years to prove their worthiness (a period of time which is equal to that of people currently applying for citizenship). I’m presuming that the applicants would be registered and legal resident aliens, and would be forbidden to vote in any elections.

In some respects, this makes sense. Anyone that is serious about becoming a citizen of this country should be able to keep their nose clean for a decade, and prove during that time they can be a productive contributor to society. Those that don’t are then weeded out and deported.

On the logistical side, could you imagine the amount of resources that would be needed to round-up and deport just 800,000 people? Staggering, in my opinion. It would rival the most jaded dystopian novel that you could think of.

People who think that President Trump is selling out his Conservative base need to look at these last two points closely. Yes, the kids are here illegally, participants in their parents illegal immigration to this country. Morally, it can be argued (and is), not to penalize the children. It can also be argued that legalizing, although delayed, the Dreamers would increase the Democratic voting base.

I could argue that once the Dreamers (the ones that survive the decade-long vetting process) will have jobs, become productive, and presumably have a better appreciation for self-sufficiency rather than the sit-on-your-butt and receiving handouts mentality that the Democrats seem to promote. At the same time, it frosts me that these children (some of which are now young adults) are still here illegally and we’re talking about making them legal.

The Wall & Security: Once the door has been closed, it needs to be locked and guarded. Going down this path of offering a path to citizenship needs to have a cutoff point. This situation cannot be repeated in 30-some years. That was proven when Ronald Reagan (yes, that Ronald Reagan) signed into law the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. Here it is 32 years later, and we’re facing the same issues again though non-enforcement of existing laws, and the subverting of various laws by Congress and other state & local governments.

Chain Migration, Visa Lottery, and Merit-Based Immigration: Both of these programs do not benefit the United States. Bringing immigrants into this country that do not contribute is a drain upon the system. Indeed, I have read of several accounts of relatives of legal immigrants being brought into this country and being met by attorneys & social workers whose sole purpose was to assist in signing them up to receive Welfare and other public entitlements. There are also reports of people who came into this country on the Visa Lottery and Chain Migration systems engaging in terrorists activities.

It used to be that to immigrate to the United States, you had to show that you had a skill and that you could contribute to the country. This is a merit-based system that we have gotten away from. It’s time to bring it back.

E-Verify: Once the door is closed, people who have refused to sign up or illegally entered the country should not be able to find work (a reason) to stay. They will then self-deport. Otherwise, that person is taking a job that a legal citizen should have (and another person off the Welfare system). Companies that violate these laws should be penalized and the responsible parties prosecuted.

Ending Sanctuary Cities and States: The current laws of the United States specify that anyone harboring an illegal alien is guilty of a felony. Provide a grace period for the elected officials to reverse their policies. Those that don’t should be prosecuted and imprisoned. It has already been proven that sanctuary cities have higher crime rates and are unsafe for the citizens of that city. By providing aid, comfort, and protection to criminals, these officials are violating their oaths of office to the people who elected them, and should therefore be removed.

The Democrats are not in agreement with much of the above for several reasons (most of them political).

The Democrats want the immigration situation to be a campaign issue that they can use in their attempts to regain control of Congress (and later the White House). They also want to be the ones to have the bragging rights that “they did something” for the Dreamers, and thus “earn” the Dreamers undying political support. Finally, they are making the specious argument that this proposal is “racist.”

I personally think that the Democrats are on the losing end of this issue.

The Democrats had control of both houses of Congress and the White House, and even though they slowly lost control of it all, did not even attempt to bring any type of solution for this issue. The Democrats have been roundly criticized for this.

Strike one…

It wasn’t until President Trump was elected did the Democrats issue a shrill, piercing call to “fix the Dreamer issue.” Ultimately, it led to the disastrous (for the Democrats) 3-day shutdown of the government. Calls from the Dreamers and their supporters labeling the Democrats as traitors has been near deafening.

Strike two…

The Democrats are not bargaining from a position of strength. They need to come to some agreement with President Trump and the Republicans. Otherwise, they will play obstructionist to their heart’s content and vote down any proposal. What will then happen is that President Trump and the Republicans can point to the Democrats and say “We wanted to provide a path to Citizenship for more than what the Democrats wanted, and they turned us down & spit in your eye for good measure!! We now have to follow the laws that Congress previously passed and have to deport you and your families.” The Dreamers and their supporters will not be happy by any stretch of the imagination.

Strike three… The Democrats are out – hopefully, permanently.

At least that’s how I see it. I wonder how this pans out…

Shutdown!

Last night, the Senate failed to pass a temporary spending bill that would keep the Federal government running. Here’s the immediate aftermath of that action:

The sun still came up.

No one has immediately keeled over & died as a result.

The lights are still on.

The Earth has not fallen into the sun.

In other words, dispite the dire predictions of Schumer, Pelosi, & other members of the WAH!* Party, the world and universe have not come to an end.

Dispite the lack of funding for “non-essential services,” I fully expect that the impact upon the average American to be minimal under the Trump Administration. This would stand in full contrast of the previous Obummer Administration, whose goal was to make it as painful as possible for the citizens so as to blame the Republicans for the inconvenience.

So what’s the issue? Here’s a good synopsis:

““Hostage-taking” is the term that was used in 2013 when Ted Cruz and a few other Republicans blocked government funding to try to force repeal of ObamaCare. You can’t deny people essential government services just because you didn’t get your way on some other policy! Now here we are, five years later, and Democrats are prepared to deny those same services because they haven’t gotten their way on a DREAM amnesty with essentially no strings attached.”  Allapundit @ Townhall.com

So this all comes down to what to do with the children of illegal immigrants who are here illegally, who are not citizens, and who are facing deportation in accordance to the laws of this country.

A question for the WAH! Party – Is this issue something that you want to hang your futures on?

The WAH! Party is in bad shape. They are heavily in debt as a result of the Obummer and Hildebeast campaigns. The apparent acrimony in the election of their co-chairs is still evident in their lack of fundraising. The treatment of Bernie is still rubbing a good portion of the Party members the wrong way. And the message that the co-chairs are sending out is appeals only to the leaches that depend upon the WAH! Party for sustenance – flyover country is not impressed. Last is that after the defeat of the Hildebeast, no one in the party is really positioned to make a run for the Presidency – they all have baggage that would send them to the bottom of the Marianas Trench.

Their solution is to push for the amnesty and full citizenship of the Dreamers. These children and young adults have come from countries where the government rules over the citizens, and the educational systems in this country has leaned toward Socialism for years. Should the Dreamers be granted citizenship with the resulting chain migration continue unabated, the WAH! Party would have a voter base of roughly 900,000+ to build upon. This is their long-term goal – a power play to get a their majority back and lock up the elections for decades to come.

This is the issue that the WAH! Party wants to shut the government down for – getting consessions for people who are essentailly criminals, putting their party ahead of the citizens of this country. Considering who they backed for the last election, perhaps I shouldn’t be surprised.

If anyone is paying attention, the WAH! Party does not have the American People rights and priveledges as part of their focus. It’s keeping themselves in power, and damned be the consequences to the United States.

Breitbart has this to say about the DREAM Act:

…working and middle-class Americans would be put in further competition for U.S. jobs against up to 3.5 million newly legalized foreign nationals. A recent report found that 1 in 5 illegal aliens given amnesty under the DREAM Act would end up on food stamps and nearly 1 in 7 would end up on Medicaid, further straining the social safety net for America’s poor.

And in the same article, here’s a partial quote (which I’ve seen from other sources) from Senator Dick Durban (D-IL):

“I’m focused on one thing — not that meeting — but on making sure that those who are being protected by DACA and eligible for the DREAM Act have a future in America. I am focused on that full time.”

Enough said.

Just a Few Thoughts

This is the time of year that no one has time or energy to do a whole lot other than trying to complete year-end work and shop for that “perfect” present for your loved ones. Doesn’t leave a whole lot of time to do much else, so here are a few thoughts on some of the current events.

The Republican’s have passed a revised tax bill through both houses of Congress. I don’t know if that’s a good thing or not as some of the rumblings about the bills as they head toward reconciliation may not be a good thing for the American people. Various deductions have been removed and others increased, appears to be business friendly, Obamacare penalty is gone, but who knows what the final version will look like. A bit nervous with this one.

Of course, the Democrats are bitching and moaning about not being heard (they were, but they were making horse’s asses of themselves), that it will impact the middle class (as if they have really given a crap about the middle class except around election time), and that it was passed without Democrat support (just like Obamacare). While I think they may have some good points in the noise that they are generating, they have not participated in good faith, have not (to my knowledge) offered anything constructive, and the bigger point, would have passed a massive tax increase if they were in charge of Congress. While I don’t trust politicians in general, I definitely do not trust a politician with a “D” after their name.

Pause for thought – There are 535 Legislators in both houses of Congress that set laws and policies for this country. Thus far, the country’s bond rating has been downgraded and is trillions of dollars in debt. To keep the country going, money has to be borrowed and paid back with interest. All this shows is that the majority of lawyers and idealists that make up the political parties do not have this country’s best interest as part of their agenda, but desire to stay in power whatever the cost.

It’s probably been stated before, but I believe that both parties are against President Trump. He is a political outsider, and if he is able to push through his agenda, it will prove that the politicians for the past 50-plus years have been screwing the American people over.

This country does not have a tax problem. This country has a spending problem. How many times have we heard or read about a frivolous spending item that costs millions of dollars in tax dollars? There is very little accountability in the massive bureaucracy that is the government. But that appears to be changing a little.

The sex scandal that has rocked Hollywood has spilled over to the halls of Congress. Politicians have been found using a taxpayer funded hush fund to pay off their victims. This is reprehensible. Bad-behaving politicians have no personal stake in changing their behavior. The money doesn’t come out of their personal pocket, and the victims sign an agreement to not say anything about the incident. They have no reason to change, and no accountability for their actions.

It is fascinating to me that the majority of politicians caught up in this are Democrats. You know, the ones that alway state that they are “for women’s rights” and some other drivel? Where was the outrage that the Democrats are now showing when a known sexual predator by the name “Slick Willie” was in the White House, and the Democrats covered it up? These incidents keep me thinking that the Democratic Party is poison for this country.

Of course, we have to keep in mind that the Republicans are only marginally better than the Democrats. I’m wondering if they will snatch defeat from the jaws of victory on the tax reform bill like they did with repealing Obamacare. If so, then they could very well lose control of Congress during the mid-terms.

That’s all for now. What do you think?

Year End Random Thoughts

This time of year, I tend to reflect a bit more on the events that shaped this year.  So buckle in for one of the last year-end rants – you might want to put the coffee down now…

When Fidel Castro died, we could really tell what the Progressive Left Democrats thought of the American People.  When they lamented Castro calling him a “Progressive Leader” and a “Defender of Freedom” all the while knowing that this person had jailed, tortured, executed, and exiled his political enemies & citizens all the while looting the country for his personal benefit, we found out what they think of and have in mind for us.  It just confirmed Felonia von Pantsuit’s “deplorable” comment…

The Progressive Left Democrats are socialists if not in practice then definitely in words.  It amuses me somewhat when they call Conservatives (and most recently President-Elect Trump) Nazies and Hitler.  Nazi is an abbreviation of “National Socialist German Workers’ Party.”  Let that sink in for a moment or two…

The Progressive Left Democrats also think that government is the answer to all of the ills of society.  Government actually causes more problems than they solve.  On second thought, does anyone remember when everything sucked and then the government stepped in and solved all of our problems?  I sure don’t, and I don’t expect it to happen.

Think about this too – Venezuela is a socialist country, and has run out of everything – food, water, toilet paper, fuel, etc. – when the oil prices crashed and the government run oil industry crashed along with it.  It’s so bad that Venezuelans are crossing the countries borders to find food, and are putting their children up for foreign adoption in order to save them.  A lesson to be learned here is that no matter how many times that socialism (and it’s cousin communism) has been tried, it has been disastrous to the people of that country.

But that doesn’t matter to the Progressive Left Democrats and their supporters.  To this day, they are begging, pleading, and threatening the Electors of the Electoral College to change their votes for Felonia von Pantsuit, aka The Hildebeast, to have the a) first female President, and b) a third year of Obamanomics, Obamacare, and a disastrous foreign policy.  The outgoing First Lady is further embarrassing herself when she stated that there is no hope for Americans without a continuation of the policies that have mired this country in low employment and a nearly non-existent economy.

What sore losers…

I do expect President Trump to fulfill his campaign promises to make things better, but I’m realistic enough to know that the problems that have been created by decades of political corruption and meddling won’t be solved in four, eight, or more years.  Not when there are useless politicians who have no common sense or experience in the real world in government.

For instance, the Indianapolis city-county council passed a resolution for “meatless Mondays” to “reducing or eliminating animal products from diets for the benefit of animals, the environment, and our health.”  In California, regulation of cow flatulence has been mandated to combat global warming / climate change / whatever is the buzzword for the day is for weather.  And last, in several states, it is illegal to collect rainwater for your own personal use (like to water flowers).  All brought to you by an overzealous government with a Machiavellian bent all brought to you by years of progressive policies.

The latest push into government control is one of the “reasons” that the Progressive Liberal Democrats have stated that they lost the election is “fake news.”  Their solution is to “curate” the news, which is another word for “censor.”  Isn’t anyone concerned about this foray into a further violation into our First Amendment?  I sure haven’t heard a whole lot from the media, but then again, they have been constantly embarrassed by people digging for the truth & reporting it instead of the pro-Liberal propaganda spouted by the media.  I’m sure we’ll hear more about this in the coming weeks as the Liberals in the Democratic Party and the media search for relevance in the face of their rejection by the American People.

And, of course, there’s the usual post-election call for replacing the Electoral College with a straight popular vote.   To which I ask – do you really want the heavily Democratic-controlled cities and states dictating through elections how the rest of the country is to be governed?  Just look at the troubles that California is having (economics, taxes, housing costs, etc.) & the number of bankrupt cities, and then tell me that is the way to go on a national level.

I leave you with some reading material.  First, Arthur Schaper’s “The California Democratic Party: The Ghost of Confederates Past” which outline’s the Democrat’s problems in California (and for us if we let them).  Second is Kurt Schilchter’s alternate universe of the aftermath of a Hildebeast victory “The Terrifying Aftermath of Hillary’s Election Victory.”

Have a good week, everyone.  There’s a non-traditional post pending for Christmas Eve that I believe you should read.

The Same Dance, Only Worse

Eleven years ago this month, I started writing in a personal blog.  Looking back at one of the first posts, I ran across this statement:

How a President and his wife (now a Senator) were able to avoid jail while they committed perjury is beyond me except for “connections.”

How things haven’t changed…

It’s also interesting that eleven years ago, Trump had a reality show, he made some pretty bad statements that were recorded, and he was a Democrat, and this was all after a President was impeached for lying about having inappropriate sexual relationships with an intern.

I cannot and will not defend Donald Trump for his foul mouth – he is the one that owns that particular chunk of bad manners.  He has made public apologies, and that should be the end of it…except it wont be.

The Media, always drawn to any sleaze involving Conservative or Republicans while ignoring the Democrats or Progressive/Liberals for similar or worse actions, will milk this for all its worth while looking for anything else to smear Trump.  It won’t matter how much the Hildebeast is exposed for the shady dealings, lies, and outright treason that she has committed, the Media will continue to shield her as much as possible.

And I cannot for the life of me understand why.  I can speculate, but I do not understand why the Media would support a person that does not respect the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the laws of this land.  For instance –

During the second debate, both candidates were asked “What would you prioritize as the most important aspect of selecting a Supreme Court justice?”  The answer (in part) from the Hildebeast was telling where her priorities and loyalties lie:

“This is one of the most important issues in this election. I want to appoint Supreme Court justices who understand the way the world really works, who have real-life experience, who have not just been in a big law firm and maybe clerked for a judge and then gotten on the bench, but, you know, maybe they tried some more cases, they actually understand what people are up against.

“Because I think the current court has gone in the wrong direction. And so I would want to see the Supreme Court reverse Citizens United and get dark, unaccountable money out of our politics. Donald doesn’t agree with that.

“I would like the Supreme Court to understand that voting rights are still a big problem in many parts of our country, that we don’t always do everything we can to make it possible for people of color and older people and young people to be able to exercise their franchise. I want a Supreme Court that will stick with Roe v. Wade and a woman’s right to choose, and I want a Supreme Court that will stick with marriage equality.

“I want a Supreme Court that doesn’t always side with corporate interests. I want a Supreme Court that understands because you’re wealthy and you can give more money to something doesn’t mean you have any more rights or should have any more rights than anybody else.

“So I have very clear views about what I want to see to kind of change the balance on the Supreme Court. And I regret deeply that the Senate has not done its job and they have not permitted a vote on the person that President Obama, a highly qualified person, they’ve not given him a vote to be able to be have the full complement of nine Supreme Court justices. I think that was a dereliction of duty.”

I would like to point out as many other people have is that the Constitution or the Bill of Rights did not figure in the Hildebeast’s answer to this question.  If anything, her answer – when carefully read – reveals that she wants to appoint Justices that will support a Progressive/Liberal viewpoint which is actually counter to the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, despite what her follow-up response to the Second Amendment:

“And I just want to quickly say, I respect the Second Amendment. But I believe there should be comprehensive background checks, and we should close the gun show loophole, and close the online loophole.”

Her statement about the Second Amendment is absolutely false – she does not respect the Second Amendment, and has stated as much in earlier speeches and policy conferences.  She would, in essence, appoint Justices to overturn the Heller and McDonald rulings, and sign legislation such as H.R.4269What doesn’t get legislated away and supported by a Leftist Supreme Court, she will ban and confiscate by Executive Order.  These would gut the Second Amendment rights of the People without touching the Amendment itself.  These statements and strategies are all in the public domain should you search for them.

Back to the original response – Overturning the Citizen’s United ruling is a blow against the First Amendment’s freedom of speech and press.  Stop and think about that – the Media is for a candidate that is against corporations, unions (!), and other organizations stating their opinions by running ads against or for candidates.  If overturned, then could censorship of the Media be far behind?  Giving the Liberal/Progressive penchant for government control of everything, it’s not a stretch, and the media should be very aware of the company they are keeping.

A good example of this is the recent Obamacare fiasco.  Insurance companies are losing money hand over fist, and have petitioned the Government for assistance per legislation.  The Government is refusing, so the insurance companies are withdrawing from the exchanges, leaving many people scrambling for insurance.  There are several examples of the Government reneging on promises, legislation, or treaties throughout history.  Just ask the Indians…the Veterans…or Michelle Malkin (who just had her third insurance carrier bail on her).

To rely on the government for anything long-term is stupidity at best and insanity at worst. – Tom Roland, Equal Diversity

My friends, I am beyond concerned – I’m genuinely frightened at a Hildebeast presidency.  With the polls as they are against Trump and Republicans running for the hills trying for self preservation, a Felon in Chief is more than just possible.  We cannot depend on the Republicans to hold the line in the House and Senate against a Hildebeast presidency – they have overturned only one Presidential veto in the almost 8 years of an Obama presidency, and that was for a no-brainer.  The Republicans have been squishy at best, absent at worst, and ineffective most of the time.  But they’re still better than the Democrats being in charge.

In closing, there’s this from Mark Davis at Townhall.com:

There is plenty of fair criticism of Trump on the right. Some of his conservatism seems recently cultivated, and he has only fitful fluency in its language. Doubt is not unreasonable. And some of his pronouncements, from trade policies to the minimum wage, are soundly unconservative.

But his priority list offers a shot at conservative results more satisfying than we might have seen from perhaps half the field he defeated. Immigration, Obamacare repeal, a serious war against global jihad, a Reaganesque tax plan, job creation—if he bats only .500 on these, we will see a far better America than under her malicious stewardship.

And that’s before we get to the issue that will give the next president an imprint on America lasting until the grandchildren are grown: the Supreme Court. It is an unpardonable disconnect for any constitutional conservative to show nonchalance or outright approval as Hillary Clinton plots a savaging of the Bill of Rights.

So Trump is coarse. So he has said some offensive things. So he won’t mix well at George Will’s patrician cocktail parties. So he causes the elites to clutch their pearls and get the vapors. So what? We have a country to save.

And there are two kinds of conservatives right now: those who will take up the fight to save this nation from Hillary Clinton, and those who won’t. From the halls of Congress to the cubicles of punditry, many will be judged for years to come by their choices in the coming days.

And let’s be clear. Taking up the fight means taking up the fight. It does not include mere restraint from savaging the nominee. It does not mean playing Paul Ryan head games containing tepid good wishes wrapped in a refusal to endorse.

Taking up the fight means making it abundantly clear to all who listen that every voter should pull the lever for Donald Trump. Anything less leaves America’s door unlocked for the home invasion that will accompany the Hillary Clinton inauguration.

Folks, I don’t know what it will take for you to get through this election – clothespins on the nose, an ice-cream binge, Jack Daniels, or what ever else – we do need to vote for the one chance that this country has, no matter how uncouth or unpalatable their actions have been in the past.  And that person is Donald Trump, (and yes, vote for any and all Republicans running for Congress, state, and local offices).

Litmus Test

On Monday evening, the first debate of the candidates for President will take place.  Ninety minutes, no breaks, no chairs, no teleprompters or earbuds, and no excuses.  Some are predicting a Hildebeast meltdown, some are predicting a Trump blow-up.  Regardless, this debate and the next will most likely determine the independent vote.

For those undecided reading this post, allow me a few minutes to ramble on how I determine how my vote will be cast between two candidates.

Those regular readers of this blog know that I am a 2nd Amendment supporter, and make no apologies for that.  Any candidate worth my vote must support, without question, the 2nd Amendment.  This is more than having firearms or weapons.  It is about the heritage of this country, how it was founded, and more importantly, who is really in charge of this country.  Without getting into a history lesson, this is my explanation for this criteria.

Candidates that state support for the 2nd Amendment recognize that the rights of the citizens of this country take precedence over the government.  It is not only this specific Amendment that is important, but the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Declaration of Independence.  The candidate, by supporting the 2nd Amendment, also supports (without stating) the rest of the founding documents of this country.

It is therefore expected that these candidates will honor their oaths of office, and abide by the restrictions of the Constitution upon their office.  And in general, this has proven to be true.

If we look at political office holders who state opposition to the 2nd Amendment, we generally see that the rights of the citizens have taken a back seat to the political and personal aspirations of the individual candidate.  For instance…

Democrats have generally been anti-2nd Amendment while Republicans have been pro-2nd Amendment.  The public was generally not in favor of the Affordable Care Act (aka ACA aka Obamacare) as evidenced by the following exchange during a town hall with then Senator Arlan Spector and then HHS Secretary Kathleen Sibilius, a woman stood up and stated,

“I look at this health care plan and I see nothing that is about health or about care. What I see is a bureaucratic nightmare, Senator. Medicaid is broke, Medicare is broke, Social Security is broke and you want us to believe that a government that can’t even run a cash for clunkers program is going to run one-seventh of our U.S. economy? No sir, no!”

Amid great public outcry, the Democrats overwhelmingly voted for the ACA without a single Republican vote, taking away the freedom of the citizens of this country to select their own healthcare at affordable prices, and involving government control into an area not permitted by the Constitution.  As we have seen, the ACA is failing exactly as predicted, and We The People are literally paying the price for that failure.

Yes, the Democrats were voted out of office for their failure to honor the rights and the will of the people, but once again we have in this election cycle two main party candidates on opposite sides of the 2nd Amendment.  If you apply this litmus test, and look at the positions of the candidates in respect to what rights of the people they respect, then there is clearly only one choice.

And it’s not the person with the “D” or G” behind their name…  The only choice that has a chance of being elected has the “R” behind their name, not the “L”.

Some have accused me of being a single-issue voter.  So be it, but if one looks deeper, there’s a reason for it.  If you have a better strategy, I’d love to hear it.

Fifteen Years Later

Reflecting back on this day in 2001, the words “never forget” come to mind.  However, I do wonder if other people continue to remember what happened, and the implications of that amnesia.

The following is a post that I wrote for the five-year anniversary of 9/11, the day that Islamic terrorism came to America:

Sitting at my desk at another plant on assignment five years ago, I was finishing up some report when someone came in the office and announced that a plane had hit one of the World Trade Center buildings. I really didn’t think much of it at the time, and thought that some joy riding pilot in a Cessna got too close to one of the buildings, got caught in an updraft, and slammed into the building.

I finished up the report, and went out on the floor to check on the project’s progress, and I happened to see one of the TVs the company had set up for internal communications. Someone had put the feed from one of the national networks on the network, and I saw the WTC burning. I was stunned for two reasons – the first was that it was such a clear day, so how could someone accidentally hit one of the buildings. The second was that I just couldn’t understand how a small plane could cause so much damage. That’s when I saw the second plane hit…

Dumbfounded, I suddenly realized that the first plane was not a Cessna or other small plane, but a full-sized, passenger-carrying jet. I next understood that this was deliberate, because there was absolutely no way that two planes could hit the WTC buildings on the same clear day. Then there was the overwhelming sense of sadness, grief, hopelessness as the dawning of a new thought came to mind…

Terrorism, unlike anything that we have ever known, had come to America.

I watched, horrified along with the rest of the country, as the towers came down mere minutes from each other. I couldn’t understand that at the time – this was the last thing that I had expected. I had known that the Empire State Building had been struck by a B-25 bomber and had survived with minimal damage – why not a modern building? But that was not the case here – too big, too much fuel, too much heat – and the towers collapsed. And I wept openly as I watched the plumes of dust rise over the island of Manhattan.

Later, the news of the Pentagon being hit and the plane going down in Pennsylvania came across the news, but everyone was in shock. Who could have done this, and why? Questions abounded, and answers were few in coming. Wild speculation and rumors ran through the plant unchecked. And everyone was afraid…

Where was the next attack going to happen, and when? Everyone struggled to make sense of the madhouse that the country had become. Nothing was the same, nor would it ever be again. And the skies went silent except for the roar of fighter jets on patrol.

I feared for the future of the country, and of that of my son’s. What kind of a world was he going to grow up in? How much different was his childhood and adult life going to be than mine? The future had suddenly become so very uncertain and frightening for all of us.

The American people are now at war, not with a nation, but with an ideology that hates this country and all of it’s citizens. These people live, think, sleep, and eat with the thought of killing us and destroying this country that we live in simply because they do not like us for the freedoms we enjoy (especially the one about freedom to worship). And their reward for doing so is their version of heaven. And knowing all of this, there are those who still believe that these fanatics can be negotiated with.

In the past five years, we observed the political parties pull together like most of us had never known before, only to watch political sniping and power plays take the place of securing this country from foreign terrorists once & for all. The planes are flying again, but at great inconvenience to all. Terrorist attacks have taken place and were prevented around the world, but we all know it’s a matter of time before another attack happens here.

What does the future hold? That is unknown to all except the Creator. But I am hopeful, both in this country and my fellow Americans. We have proven in the past that we are a resilient people, able to rise and meet any challenge before us. I can only pray that this will be the case as our new enemy is as patient, cunning, and vicious as any beast of the field. And we must remember that as we observe this most solemn day.

In the years that have passed, we have seen the fall of the group that planned and committed the atrocities of  9/11, only to see a more terrifying group take its place.  Even more astounding is that the progressive liberals of the Democratic Party has taken the position of defending and ignoring the horrors that Islam represents, even defending it.  To this end, the current Administration is allowing primarily Muslim refugees into this country without serious investigation into their suitability to immigrate into this country, and the current Democratic Presidential candidate is advocating increasing the number of these immigrants under the same flawed policy.

We have seen in this country and others in Europe the results of allowing Islamic refugees into their countries without vetting.  Crime such as rape, robbery, and murder have all been attributed to immigrants who have no intent to integrate into their host country’s societies, but bring the same beliefs that turned their home countries into the hell that they were fleeing from to begin with.  The politicians seem not to care one whit about the harm that is being inflicted upon their country’s citizens, and make excuses for their course of action or inaction.

As I wrote the preceding, I’m reminded of this paragraph from a post in 2006 which stated;

Whether we like it or not, I believe that the Islamic terrorists are going to do their damnest to make this into a religious war from whatever it can be called now. They will use the classic good vs. evil argument, an us-vs.-them conflict in the name of a jihad (religious war, for those of you in Rio Linda). They will plot, plan, and execute attacks that will cause large numbers of casualties.  And the elitist idiots among us will wring their hands crying, “We don’t understand! We were talking!” Understand this, you Brie-eaters – there are people in the world that want to kill you just for the reason that you exist!! And we still seem to pursue the idiotic mantra of appeasement to those who wish nothing more than to destroy our country and subjugate us to their religion.

I am not an Islamophobe, but I am concerned about a religious theology that states that:

  1. Islam is to be the state religion.
  2. All subjects of the state are required to believe in Islam & the Prophet, and are subject to the laws of Sharia.
  3. Non-believers & sinners according to the Holy Book are to be punished up to and including execution.
  4. Women are property, not people.

This theology is in direct conflict with the Constitution and laws of this country.  And yet the political Progressive Left goes out of their way to defend Islam and its practices.  If you do not believe me, then read the entire article titled “Sharia USA” by Aynaz Anni Cyrus, a woman that fled at the risk of her life to immigrate to the United States to escape Islamic oppression.  An excerpt from that article follows that demonstrates what we are seemingly, blindly, rushing toward:

I am saying all of this because today, as I look at what is happening in America, I see our freedom gravely threatened. Islam is at war with us, and it will stop at nothing in its deliberate and sustained attack on our freedoms. Islamization of the West is occurring at a very fast pace and one of the vehicles Supremacists are using to achieve it is the flooding of Western countries with Muslim refugees. Islamic Obama has opened the floodgates and Hillary intends to escalate the process.

Our leadership and media, meanwhile, perpetrate the lie that accepting these refugees is somehow about tolerance. It is not about tolerance — it is about our values being exploited by our enemies to assist us in cultural suicide and leaving ourselves vulnerable to jihadist attacks.

The dire danger to America lies in the lies told by our leftist government and media and the ignorance of many Americans about Islam’s true character and purpose. I fear that Americans have become blind to how precious and rare freedom is and how it must be protected and fought for without pause. I can’t help but fear that what is coming to America is what came to my homeland in 1979 — and I refuse to be silenced again. And because I refuse to be silent today, I know that certain Islamic forces have targeted me. But I will continue to speak out.

I tell you these things not to gain your sympathy, but to help you understand that our freedom is under fire. Our country is headed down a very dangerous path. The Left has succeeded in making resistance to Islamization appear to be racism and hatred. We must fight this malicious lie. We must fight to become well-informed and educated about Islam in order to defeat leftist and Islamist propaganda. By remaining silent, being afraid to be called names and ignoring reality, we will be surrendering our freedoms to the enemy.

The answer to my question in the 2006 post “What does the future hold?” is borne out by events of these years.  Our country has indeed changed, and not for the better.  Fifteen years is a long time to forget the horror of that day, and the religion of the people that brought that horror.  Fifteen years to make excuses for, and to plan how to take advantage of a people so willing to forgive and forget.  Fifteen years to allow the Middle East to dissolve into Hell on Earth.  Fifteen years later, we are on the verge of another election cycle that will determine the course of this country. Fifteen years after the attack, and the forgetful public is just about ready to hand over the reigns of power to a megalomaniacal political party that is interested in its own power and not the citizens of the country.

“Never Forget” my a$$…

Random Thoughts

Target Department Stores have come under fire for their transgender bathroom policy.  Per their “inclusiveness” policy, any person that identifies as the opposite gender is allowed to use the restroom of their choice, i.e., a man that identifies as a woman can use the women’s restroom.

Does anyone else see a problem with this?

I’m just waiting for some pervert to dress up as a woman, go into the women’s restroom, and sexually assault a woman/teen/child.  Then the lawsuits will fly and everything gets muddled more than it is.  Lost will be the rights of the victim along with the injuries (physical and emotional) that they received.

At this point in time, Target has received over 1,000,000 notices from people that will not shop at Target over this policy.  Target has not budged in their position.  Considering that Target Canada has declared bankruptcy, it doesn’t make business sense in losing over a million plus customers for accommodating roughly 0.3% of the population.  A smart company would have three restrooms – one for men, one for women, and one for the gender-confused (i.e., unisex).  But such is the social justice movement of the corporate world and politics of the day.

Between this new policy and being anti-gun, Target will not be getting the hard-earned dollars of my wife and I.

The Liberals have been characterizing conservatives and Republicans as having a “war on women.”  Really?

Somehow, with pushing the transgender policy that Target has adopted, I would think that these policies have put more women in physical danger than any of the supposed anti-women proposals from the conservatives.

Political correctness running rampant leads to the idiotic rantings of the faculty and their sycophant snowflakes on various college campuses.  “Safe spaces,” “code words” and “trigger warnings” are a disservice to the educational process of our young adults.  These people must learn that there are other opinions that run counter to the opinions of themselves.  Lost is the critical thinking that ensures a well-rounded education.  Open minds lead to sharing of ideas, and everyone benefits.

“It’s about how to study, cooperate, listen carefully, think critically and resolve conflicts through reason. Those are the most important skills in the working world, and it’s why colleges have always exposed students to challenging and uncomfortable ideas.” – former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Commencement Speech, University of Michigan, 2016

That’s all for now.  Note that the posting over the next few months will be slowing down somewhat due to weather and much needed time off.  There will be posts, just not on a weekly basis – Tom Roland
