More Evil

My apologies for not posting – life has been busy, and this weekend is no exception. This post will be short – maybe…

We’ve have had not one, but two mass-murders this weekend – one in Texas, the other in Ohio. Details are still coming in, but I can almost predict the following:

  • The Democrat Candidates, aka The Clown Posse, will all call for more gun control because “we must do something” even though their “something” will only impose restrictions on the law-abiding gun owner & not anyone bent on evil.
  • The murders will have occurred in so-called “gun-free zones,” which obviously do not work as the murderers had guns. They should be renamed “defenseless zones.”
  • The murderers have thoughts of grandeur – wanting their names in the news even though they may not be around to see it…their gory way of becoming famous. They could also be mentally unstable.
  • There are early rumblings in the media of tying these shootings to the hate-filled rhetoric of the President. (How the President is somehow responsible for this is beyond me.)

I have given a bit of thought as to why it seems that we are seeing an increase in these types of events, and while these thoughts have been put forth by others, seem to be true.

As mentioned above, many of the murderers have mental health issues, some diagnosed, others not. Our society, with its focus on instant gratification through social media, certainly doesn’t help. Twitter is a garbage dump – foul language and hateful comments by people famous and those not even on the radar all clamor for that recognition that these people crave that they otherwise do not receive in real life. Technology has exasperated the problem, not resolved it.

Our media takes the mantra “if it bleeds, it leads” to a new low. The rush of the media in their desire to be first in the 24-hour news cycle reports everything possible, presenting misinformation as fact just to be first. And they gleefully report the murderers name non-stop with their backgrounds, beliefs, manifestos, and body count with the fervor of fans at a concert. No wonder people who are unstable consider mass-murder as a route to infamous immortality.

And all the while, the casualty count of one of these mass-murders is a bad weekend on Chicago’s South side. But let’s not go there because of politics and agendas…as in the politicians ignoring the murder rates in Democrat controlled cities, and a complicit media lying by omission the real problems surrounding gun-related murders.

Rather than dealing with criminal behavior and the mental health aspect of the problem, the politicians want to demonize a piece of metal and plastic. This provides the politicians in these areas deniability while promising to “do something about this epidemic” during multiple campaign seasons. Somehow, it never gets done other than trying to restrict the legal ownership of weapons. Nothing is done about crime or mental health, no matter what the politicians promise.

Politicians also have no problems, especially with firearms, with passing laws to restrict anything that can be used by a private citizen to defend themselves. After all that’s the job of the police – if they get to the scene of the crime, if at all… Politicians want the power over the people, which has been the function of governments throughout history.

As far as the media is concerned, why would they want to help solve a source of news? After all, mass-murders provide coverage for days if not weeks of misinformation to the masses as well as the all important ratings points…

Yes, I’m a cynical bastard, and I can go down this road a long way… To whit…

I guarantee if the weapon(s) used in these murders was the problem, there would be 100,000+ murders a day as there are over 100,000,000 million weapons in the hands of private American citizens. There wouldn’t be anyone left in the country in a few weeks.

To restate an earlier comment, I have no idea how the President of the United States could be responsible for instigating mass-murder. The most hate-filled rhetoric has been coming from various members of the Democrat Party, and has been ever since President Trump was elected. If anything, the Democrats should be looking in a mirror to look for the source of the problem. But then again, they need to see a reflection first…

Most of the mass-murders have been leaning toward or are Democrats or Democratic-Socialists if they had any political leanings. (look at the Bernie-supporting gunman that shot up a Republican baseball team, for example) That should tell you how unhinged that party is becoming, and how unstable some of their followers are. Thus far, I haven’t heard of any Conservative or Conservative-leaning mass-murderers.

The reason the Democrat politicians want to ban AR15s is because the full-auto variant (the M16 and M4) is over 50 years old, and hundred’s of thousands of veterans know how to use this firearms platform. Should the Democrats ever succeed in achieving absolute power, many of the patriotic veterans, who swore to uphold the Constitution, could take up arms with a firearm that they are intimately familiar with. This presents a clear threat to that desire for power.

Last, with the politicians stating that it’s the police’s job to protect citizens is an absolute lie. Police are under no legal obligation to protect a private citizen, and that has been upheld in the courts. In other words, the police arrive after the crime with the intention of gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and outlining the body before carting it away to the morgue. The only first responder at the scene of the crime is going to be the (potential) victim, and if they live or no depends on how they can defend themselves. The politician does not care about you except for your vote, and only if it’s for them.

That’s all for now. We’ll see what the aftermath is from this goes.

Evil is Among US

This is a long post – almost an essay. Please find a comfortable position before reading.

All we have to do is look around at the world and it is profoundly evident that evil is in this world. The mass murder in New Zealand is evidence enough, and it will not be the last time either. All we have to do is look to the mass tribal genocides and persecutions of Christians in Africa and other places to know that we live in a world cursed by evil.

While we are fortunate to live in a country largely untouched by such violence, it does happen. The victims vary although the mass murders in our schools, colleges, and places of worship garner the most attention. The response is usually to blame the weapon used, and the “solution” is to ban whatever weapon was used.

This is exactly the wrong response.

A weapon is an inanimate object, incapable of thinking or acting on its own, and therefore cannot influence a person’s actions. For weapons to cause the damage they do, a person must be using the weapon. The cause of the atrocities is therefore the person or persons using the weapons with evil intent.

This is not something that people want to think. To believe that people are capable of such wanton destruction and murder is beyond the Utopia that certain people believe can be had if all weapons can be removed from the earth. It goes against the feeling that a person can be safe if all weapons are gone. They do not or cannot believe that there is evil in this world so horrible that they personally could be harmed.

This is all self-delusion. The belief that one is safe only means that one feels safe. That is a far cry from actually being safe. People want to feel safe even though events around them state that is not true.

I have purposefully left off the names of weapons because a variety of weapons besides firearms that have been used throughout history. For instance:

  • The first recorded murder was committed with a rock.
  • Box cutters (knives) were used to hijack four planes, and resulted in almost 3,000 deaths.
  • Bombs have been used to bring down schools (Bath, Michigan) and buildings (Oklahoma City), resulting in multiple deaths
  • Knives are a problem in London, where for the first time knife-related murders exceeded firearm-related deaths in New York in 2018.
  • Two days after Sandy Hook, a man in China attacked and injured over 24 people with a knife.
  • There are videos on YouTube of people being attacked and killed by hands (fists) and feet.
  • This past weekend, there was a video posted of a man attacking an elderly woman on the subway (I understand she lived).
  • We can read ancient history of huge battles that were fought with knives, arrows, and swords of which the numbers are absolutely staggering.

And I could go on with a historical record of man’s inhumanity to man from a purely academic view. But I cannot ignore the personal record and experiences of the people around me. To whit:

I personally know three women who have been sexually assaulted. A coworker’s apartment was broken into & robbed, and he was beaten so badly that he died after a week in the hospital. I have been personally shot at, robbed, and assaulted. For someone to tell me that all my fellow humans are of good nature and harmless because they believe so, I call BS on them.

There is an adage that Good will overcome Evil. That will only happen if Good is prepared and ready to confront Evil with everything they have, and have a bit of luck on their side.

The mass murder in New Zealand shows us exactly what it looks like when Good is unprepared and disarmed by the country they live in. The response of the victims was to huddle in the corners and pray they wouldn’t be killed. That obviously didn’t work as the murderer went around to the corners and killed at leisure. No one had a weapon in which to fight back. The murderer was only stopped when he got careless and was disarmed & held at gunpoint with his own weapon.

Yet this is what the gun-banners want – for us to be helpless in the face of Evil. Their response in the face of evil is to disarm. This is absolute effing insanity.

I’ve read accounts of where elderly people were assaulted and killed in their own homes. I’ve also read accounts where elderly people defended themselves with firearms when their homes were broken into. Same accounts on both parts for women, children (who were responsible beyond their years), and men. The common thread is that people who had little or no means to defend themselves ended up hurt or dead. The common thread is that people who could defend themselves usually survived the encounter with little or no harm, and about half of the assailants were shot, and a quarter of those did not survive the encounter (this last is an observation on my part of news reports – no scientific data to back it up).

It is a human right from time immemorial to defend yourself and your family. To state otherwise is professing that you would much rather be a victim and die. This is a harsh reality that many would rather not think about since we are supposed to be “civilized.” The truth is that evil people take advantage of this “civilization” to take what they want and do what they will. It is only that “civilization” has laws that are enforced by force that rampant evil is kept at bay.

There are those people, who have good intentions, who believe that criminals are products of society, products of their upbringing, endured traumas when they were children, etc. To a certain point, that can be true, but only to a certain point. People have minds, make decisions and choices. They can, if they want to, work to better their circumstances. However, they can also make a choice to turn to Evil to get what they want. Perhaps this is a Utopian view, but I see people like Doctor Ben Carson go from the Detroit ghettos to a successful neurosurgeon, so I know it is possible with dedication and hard work. Others in the same situation have no hope, support, or opportunities, but even people in those circumstances do not choose evil as their way of life. In most circumstances, it is a conscious choice to choose criminality as a way of life.

But I digress somewhat…

The fact is that there are people – criminals, mentally ill, or just plain lost – that can and will cause you and yours harm if given the right set of circumstances and opportunity. This also brings us to this point in time of where our society finds it more comfortable in blaming an inanimate object rather than holding the person committing the crime accountable. There are only so many excuses one can make before realizing that there are truly evil people in the world, those that are far beyond any redemption or moral guidance. This is a harsh reality that there is absolutely no getting around no matter what rainbow you’re under or what unicorn you ride.

So where does that leave the rest of us – the law-abiding, responsible people that make up the majority of society? For that to happen, let’s take a couple of steps back so we can try and have an objective view.

The media and politicians have both asserted that there is a rash of gun violence and mass murders in the United States and the world. In some respects, there is some rational for that, the latest being the murders in New Zealand. But let’s take a look at just the figures in the United States for comparison.

In round numbers, the United States has a population of roughly 330 million people. Gun related deaths run approximately 33,000 per year (give or take). Of those deaths, 2/3rds are suicides. The remaining deaths (11,000 per year) are the results of crimes and accidents, and those have been declining since 1993 per the CDC. These are facts that have been published but not widely distributed by the media.

Also is the assertion that mass murders are common. Per the FBI, 250 active shooter incidents occurred between 2000 and 2017 with 799 fatalities and 1,418 wounded. Obviously, not all of these receive the attention of Sandy Hook, Orlando, or Las Vegas, but they occur nonetheless. And per the graphics, they are on the rise but do not necessarily result in high fatalities.

Also, when looking at the graphics at the FBI site, it confirmed what I had supposed was true about the locations of these shootings – by and large, they were in areas that firearms were restricted or banned. The statistic of 98% of mass shootings occurring in “gun free” zones has been published in various articles over the years. This, in my opinion, is a problem – the law-abiding follow the laws whereas the criminals do not.

The odds of anyone being in a mass shooting are pretty slim. But what about the day to day crime, especially where a person defends themselves with a firearm?

There have been studies conducted by Gary Kleck of Florida State University and John Lott of the Crime Prevention Research Center on the defensive uses of firearms. Their conclusions is that there are 800,000 to 1,200,000 defensive uses of firearms per year, thus preventing people from being robbed, assaulted, and murdered. Interestingly enough, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) conducted their own survey in 15 states, and as reported in several different publications, implied that over 2,000,000 uses of firearms for defensive purposes per year.

To me, that means 2,000,000 less victims per year…or 2,000,000 more if disarmed.

Gun control advocates have long stated that guns are unnecessary, and that the police will protect the population. To put it bluntly, they are consciously lying through their teeth or have absolutely no idea what they are talking about.

The courts have long held that the police are under no obligation to protect citizens from crimes. The last case that I’m aware of that reinforced this ruling is that of Parkland Officer Scott Peterson.

Officer Peterson remained outside of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School while the shooting was going on inside. Officer Peterson and the Sheriff’s Department was sued by the parents of the victims for the wrongful deaths of their children. I understand that the courts eventually dismissed the case citing that there was no obligation of the officer to risk his life to protect the children inside even though that was one of his duties for being posted to the school!

And it continues on…

The politicians of both parties, from time to time, propose new regulations for firearms, anything from “universal background checks” to extreme-protection orders to magazine restrictions. These are touted to reduce crime and gun violence. Wrong.

Criminals obtain their weapons from illegal means (theft, straw purchases, or street buys). Mass murderers obtain their weapons from these sources as well as legal purchases. Any proposal or new law has been proven over and over again that these measures have no effect on the reduction of crime or other instances of gun violence. Laws cannot stop the sale of a stolen firearm, which is where most criminals say they got theirs

The various gun control groups (Mom’s Demand Action, Brady United, Everytown for Gun Safety, etc.) have all stated at one time or another that their ultimate goal is to ban firearms and disarm the private citizens of this country. The Democrat Party candidates for President have almost all stated that the country needs to follow New Zealand’s example in the wake of their mass shooting for gun control, which is to ban and confiscate all guns. They also claim that such measures will reduce crime and mass shootings.

What this means is that the Democratic candidates and the gun control groups would want ban firearms and increase the number of victims from violent crimes. In other words, the Democrats and the gun control people would prefer to sacrifice you and your family to gain control over your safety, self-defense, and life.

That, my friends, is a special kind of evil…

To be continued…

Please Explain…

This past week, a mass-murder happened in New Zealand. As it so happens, New Zealand has gun control laws somewhere between the levels of Australia and the United States. But these laws did not stop the horrific murder of 49 people.

I have to ask this question, and thus far, no one that is in favor of banning firearms has been able to definitively answer it…

How exactly does restricting or banning firearms from lawful citizens fight crime or reduce gun-related violence?

I’m waiting…

Potpourri for the Week

Once again, we find ourselves with too little time and too many things to write about, especially in detail. So, here’s a few impressions of the events since the last post:

The junior Representative from NY aka AOC celebrated the decision of Amazon not to locate a second headquarters in NY, calling it a victory for the common worker. She went on to state that the $3 billion that would have been given (!) to Amazon would better be used for infrastructure, teacher’s salaries, and helping the poor (among other things).

As if NY has $3 billion laying around…

AOC supposedly has a degree in economics from a prestigious college that ran her family $250,000. Just shows that 1) money can’t buy intelligence, 2) she must have slept through class, 3) the college was more interested in Socialist brainwashing than practical knowledge, which is evidenced by 4) AOC having to work as a bartender after graduation.

Her parents must be so proud that their money was well spent toward AOC’s education…

NY is hemorrhaging jobs and population due to their tax structure. Amazon didn’t need any more headaches from brainless politicians. Despite the Socialistic leanings of its owner, Amazon is still in the business of making money. Go capitalism!!

Next on the list is the Jussie Smollett fiasco. Sadly, this is the latest of a long line of people suffering from TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome) attempting to smear the half of the population that voted for Trump. Of course, the media, politicians, and others (self-nominated moral & social justice warriors) jumped on that train supporting Smollett’s allegations until they were proven false. And even then, some people are still saying that Smollett was attacked by MAGA hat-wearing deplorables.

When was the last time that anyone has credibly heard or reported a conservative or MAGA hat wearing person attacking a Liberal spouting off? It’s always been a tolerant spouting Liberal-type person attacking a conservative.

Folks, some friendly advice – grow the **** up (fill in your own 4-letter word), get over yourselves, and move on with your lives. It’s embarrassing…really…

Last on the rant for today is the Democrats in the House ramming through gun-control legislation which do nothing for reducing crime but infringe upon the rights of law-abiding Americans. The following is from Oklahoma Representative Markwayne Mullin:

The right to bear arms is a constitutional right and it is one that I do not plan to give up any time in the near future. Unfortunately for those of us who are ardent supporters of the Second Amendment, Democrats controlling the House of Representatives have different plans for gun owners.

Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats put forth a bill to turn law-abiding gun owners into criminals. H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019, is a completely misguided piece of legislation that harms those who lawfully carry and does nothing to stop criminals from accessing firearms.

By requiring background checks for temporary transfers of possession, it would trigger penalties of up to a year in prison and/or a $100,000 fine for simply handing a firearm to another person. Even transferring a firearm to someone during a life-threatening emergency could be deemed a crime by a federal prosecutor or judge if the transfer wasn’t “immediately necessary to prevent…imminent death or great bodily harm.”

H.R. 8 also claims that “universal” background checks will prevent recent gun tragedies, but these checks are nothing more than a sham. Current law already requires a background check on every commercial gun purchase in America. H.R. 8 does nothing to fix the loopholes in the background check system and instead introduces more red tape for gunowners to cut through.

The bill does nothing to keep criminals from gaining access to firearms. A mere 6 percent of career criminals bought their firearms through non-dealers at gun shows and flea markets, according to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Moreover, 77 percent of criminals in state prisons for firearm crimes got their firearms on the black market, on the street, from a drug dealer, or through theft, according to the Department of Justice.

Unsurprisingly, House Democrats don’t want to hear from conservatives about their take on gun violence. Minority Whip Steve Scalise, a victim of gun violence at a congressional baseball practice in 2017, was not allowed to testify at a House Judiciary Committee hearing on H.R. 8. Whip Scalise himself offers that H.R. 8 would not have prevented his shooting as his shooter purchased his firearms legally in the state of Illinois.

For House Democrats, H.R. 8 is nothing more than a messaging tool and a blatant infringement on the Second Amendment rights of Americans that is dead on arrival in the Senate. I will continue to be a defender of all Americans’ Second Amendment rights and speak out in opposition to this misguided legislation.

Be Safe, and Be Well.

March for Madness

As I suffered through one of the worst colds that I’ve had for a couple of years this past weekend, I watched a few of the highlights of the March for Our Lives that took place in various cities this past weekend. Supposedly organized by the students from Parkland (we’ll get to that later), they protested, carried signs, and made speeches to restrict a Civil Right that Americans have had before this country was founded.

Yes, these students, thrust into the spotlight and funded by various anti-gun groups, used their 1st Amendment rights to protest the 2nd Amendment rights of all Americans.

Alinsky would be proud.

I fully believe that the Bloomberg funded anti-gun groups were just waiting in the wings for another tragedy committed by an unhinged murderer to spring this massive protest across this nation. Funding was in place, the plan was made, and the waiting was over. You and I know that there is no way that today’s high-school students could single-handedly organize and execute such a massive protest without the deep pockets of established anti-gun groups. If I’m wrong, then I would like proof.

But even then, what were they protesting? Many of the marchers were ignorant of what existing laws are on the books, and what they wanted to have changed. Which made for some interesting footage such as:

  • When asked what the definition of an assault rifle was, one protester expressed incredulity at the question and accused the questioner as being stupid even though she couldn’t define the term (if we’re going to go and ban something, let’s agree on the terminology).
  • A protester carried around a sign stated that it was harder to get the poster board for the sign than getting an assault rifle (sorry that the line was long, but you don’t have to fill out paperwork and a background check to buy poster board).
  • Another protester carried a sign stating that her uterus was regulated more than firearms (I’ll let you decide on the level of WTH of that statement).

The highlights of the students wasn’t much better. One of the speakers struck a pose after his speech that was reminiscent of a Black Power or Nazi salute. Another wore the Cuban flag on her sleeve as she delivered her speech. But what was missing was viewpoints from their fellow students that supported firearm ownership, and Black student representatives from Parkland (approximately 25% of the population). Obviously, opposing views or straying from a narrative wasn’t allowed, nor were facts such as:

Fact: The FBI states that in 2016, 374 murders were committed by rifles. However, 1,604 murders were committed using “knives or cutting weapons.” Additionally, 656 murders were committed with hands, fists, or feet.

Fact: Almost all mass-murders in the past 20 years have been committed in a designated “gun-free zone.”

Fact: The NRA does not have blood on it’s hands as they haven’t killed anyone. It nor any of its members has ever been implicated or participated in a mass-murder, nor advocate that criminals or psychopaths should have guns. They are, however, a pain the butt to those who want to deprive any law-abiding American of their civil right to own a weapon.

Fact: People with concealed carry permits commit crimes at a far less rate than police officers.

Fact: No gun-control law that has been proposed or enacted has had any demonstrable positive effect upon crime or the murder rate (think of the gun-free city of Chicago for this one) for the simple fact that criminals do not obey laws.

Fact: After Great Britain essentially banned firearms, home invasions, assaults, robberies, and assaults with knives increased. The problem with knives is so bad that Great Britain is now having “Knife buybacks” in an attempt to reduce “knife violence”. (by the way, knives are a horrible self-defense option – you are at a disadvantage going up against anyone who is bigger, stronger, and more skilled than you would be).

And we can go on and on with one uncomfortable fact after another which destroy each and every argument for gun control.

I like Mike Huckabee’s statement on the protests:

“I salute these students for their passion and their energy, and for their interest in helping to shape public policy. But I would say this to them: Emotion is a terrible substitute for truth.”

Last, I received the following this morning from one of my friends, Mike. It bears reading:

“The more people who are armed, the more dangerous it becomes to be a criminal or a tyrant. If every adult who is capable of bearing arms did so routinely it would be so dangerous that only the bravest and the most disturbed individuals would engage in petty crime and tyranny could find no place to take root. The prohibition of arms is the authorization to even the most cowardly of individuals to engage in intimidation, creates fertile ground for criminal gangs, and cows the honest and honorable into increasingly timid subjects who persistently beg for strongmen to protect them and their families. Which is the siren song that leads to tyranny as no man may be fully trusted with the power to rule others without being corrupted by the temptations, fatigue and impossible responsibility of protecting large numbers of timid and increasingly irresponsible individuals, even if his motivation was pure. Those who deny the right to keep and bear arms to others enslave them to their own will and use their superior might to enforce that will on those who wish otherwise. There is no more clear boundary between a free man and a slave than whether or not they are free to keep and bear arms without the approval, consent or permission of another. Those who deprive others of the Inalienable Individual Right to Keep and Bear Arms are engaged in the taking of slaves! The right to keep and bear arms is the seed of Liberty, its absence is the seed of tyranny. You reap what you sow, choose your crop wisely. The rights of the Individual are not subject to the approval, authorization, consent or sanction of others as they are an innate and inseparable aspect of the human being and can only be respected or violated. A free society is based on the mutual respect for the Inalienable rights, person and property of others. The more consistently we do so, the better we will be and the better our world will become and the more freedom will reign. The converse is also true, and the less we respect the Inalienable rights of every Individual human being, the worse we are, the more tyrannical society becomes, the more completely everyone is a prisoner of ever more dire circumstance. Liberty bears sweet fruit which multiplies exponentially the fruits of labor, the joy of life and the wonder of invention where everyone is constantly differentiated by their talents, skills, ethic and character, so long as there is freedom. Whereas tyranny starves, dwindles and brutalizes in an orgy of cannibalistic violence and oppression yielding inexorably towards genocide and a rigid society of moral cowards terrified to differentiate themselves lest they be singled out and devoured by the undifferentiated hungering beasts which surround them, beasts who could have been men if only they were free.

“Heed this warning, for there may be no more, given the advance of censorship and the penultimate power of the state over the Individual. It is a personal choice which You must make, whether freedom shall reign or perish from the earth.

“Please pass this message on to others, make copy and spread it in physical and virtual copy far and wide. There are too many who do not know the difference between liberty and slavery. If we are to abolish slavery in all its forms we must insure that it is easily recognized by those who might otherwise, in ignorance, act to enslave themselves and others. We must succeed in this if we are to abolish tyranny, and be truly free. Take Your part of the responsibility for Your own freedom and see that the enemies of Liberty do not have the ignorant to fill the ranks of their legions. Time is forever running out!

“And furthermore the progressive establishment is a threat to human liberty and therefore it must be abolished!”

That is why this weekend’s protests should be renamed a “March for Madness.”

Parkland

We at Wise Conservatism and Tom’s Place wish to offer our sympathies and prayers to the victims and their families of the Parkland murderer.

The bodies weren’t even cold when the usual suspects began calling for the repeal of the Second Amendment, banning assault rifles, banning all guns, create & pass more gun control legislation, etc. in the effort to “do something” to prevent another tragedy of a school shooting. What is most disturbing is that all these efforts would not have prevented another tragedy, but would attempt to disarm or hinder law-abiding citizens from owning weapons.

More laws will not prevent tragedies from happening. This country has an excess of 300 million firearms, and some (a tiny amount) are unfortunately are in the hands of psychos and criminals. It makes absolutely no sense to pass laws that will affect the law abiding and not the criminals. Indeed, it’s already against the law to murder or rob someone, another law isn’t going to affect them one damn bit.

Restricting the right of a law-abiding citizen from owning a weapon that could one day save that person’s life (or those around them) is the opposite of what the gun-grabbers say they want to do. If it saves one life, they say, then we should ban guns. Then what about the 120 lb woman defending herself against a 250 lb rapist that has murderous intent? Doesn’t she have the right to defend herself with something a bit more lethal than a rape-whistle and a phone? Taking away guns from the law-abiding doesn’t save lives – it creates easy victims.

According to gunfacts.info (which has documented facts, figures, and statistics), firearms prevent 400,000 life-threatening violent crimes, and an estimated 2.5 million crimes each year. That is a staggering amount given that roughly 30,000 firearm related deaths (of which 2/3 are suicides) are recorded each year. The numbers are not in the favor of removing firearms from the citizens of this country.

Quite frankly, there isn’t a compelling argument that any law, regulation, or policy would prevent another mass murder involving a gun. Criminals, terrorists, or the mentally disturbed would find another way to commit chaos and destruction. For instance:

The massacre at Bath, Michigan in 1927 was committed by a disturbed person that claimed 44 lives using a bomb. And let’s not forget the Oklahoma Bombing in 1995 where 168 people were killed by a domestic terrorist using a bomb in a truck.

And if that wasn’t enough – Most, if not all, schools are so called “gun free zones” where even the resource officer (sometimes a police officer) is banned from carrying a weapon. Exactly how does a sign prevent someone from bringing a weapon or bomb onto school grounds and killing people? In every school shooting, it does not. Personally, the person(s) who thought that a sign with a law would keep school shootings from happening did not have an ounce of common sense, and as far as I’m concerned, has the blood of each and every victim on their hands.

In the instances of where there was an armed person (or a person that had access to a weapon) in a place of work or school, the body count was much, much less. Take the following instances:

  • In the Sutherland Church shooting, the killer’s rampage was cut short by another person with a rifle.
  • At the New Life Church in Colorado Springs, an armed volunteer security worker shot and killed an armed maniac who opened fire on parishioners.
  • After killing two people at the Clackamas Shopping Center, a man with a semi-automatic rifle was scared off from committing more murders after a concealed carry permit holder drew his weapon and pointed it at him. The killer retreated to a stairwell and killed himself.

There are more – a fast Internet search will come up with hundreds of instances of where a private citizen stopped a mass-murder and/or defended themselves with a weapon (most of the time, a handgun).

Regardless, government, laws, regulations, policies are useless in combating this type of crime, especially if not followed through. We have been told that if we see something amiss that we are to report it. Sure didn’t work here –

It has been revealed that the Parkland shooter was a disturbed individual. Police had been to his home multiple times, and it was known (at least to the adoptive parents) that he had a weapon. His social media posts revealed that he had weapons and made more than one threatening comment that he was going to become a “professional mass shooter.” This was reported to the FBI, and they did not investigate even though it was their policy to look into such threats.

So how exactly is government going to solve or prevent gun crime, or any other kind of crime or assault?

It can’t.

Every single law that has been passed does not prevent crime – laws only state what penalties are imposed for the crime committed.

With that in mind, here’s what I think we, as a community, should do to keep our children and ourselves safe while they are at school and away from us.

One: Arm the teachers. Despite the screaming of the naysayers (ex. “What if a teacher goes off the deep end and starts shooting kids?”), several school systems have this in place with no incidents. If memory serves me correctly, there are between 14 to 17 school systems that have trained and vetted teachers to conceal carry in the schools to protect the children. We protect banks, politicians, and celebrities with guns, why not the kids?

Two: Provide security for those schools who are unwilling or unable to train teachers to provide active security (or in addition to). I’m sure that the Liberals who scream and holler that “we must protect the children” would agree to use the funds that went to Planned Parenthood (which kills thousands of unborn children each year). I’m also sure that there are a variety of Veterans who would do this at little or no charge to the school systems

Three: Arm the students. On several college campuses, students that have concealed carry permits are allowed to carry on campus. Again, the naysayers scream that kids and guns won’t mix on campus, especially with alcohol around, but again, I have heard no issues with this policy. With the supposed reported up-tick in campus rapes (but who believes the MSM anymore…), young women protecting themselves should result in a lower incident rate of these reports.

Four: Remove all gun-free zones (or target-rich environments), but reserve the right of property holders to ban guns from their places of business providing that they will provide active security for their customers and employees.

Five: Provide gun safety classes in the schools. The Eddie Eagle program from the NRA is an excellent program for younger children. Other classes are available for older children. This should reduce the already low instances of tragedies with youngsters and weapons.

Final Thought:

We, as a society, has changed in the past five decades.

The respect for life has declined as evidenced by the entertainment we watch and the music we listen to. Movies glorify meaningless violence, and the rap culture celebrates cop-killing, gang membership, drugs, and rape. Additionally, abortion has reduced the miracle of life to an inconvenient clump of cells that has as much value as cancer.

Mental health is still an issue, and is a bigger issue no matter what anyone says. The asylums were emptied, and they are among us. Some are to be pitied, while other are to be feared. All are dangers to themselves, and as evidenced by the last several mass murders, are dangers to us as well.

The Parkland murderer had all the signs of a mentally disturbed person with homicidal tendencies. He was reported, nothing was done, and now 17 people are dead & their families are in mourning.

The weapon used is not at fault, but the murderer is responsible for his own actions. The weapon is a tool, and cannot think for itself.

Unfortunately, this is the world we live in. Psychos are out there. Criminals are out there. People that just don’t give a damn are out there, and just want to see the world burn at their hands.

We as individuals must take responsibility for our own safety, and the safety of our loved ones. We cannot push this responsibility off to government because government is just as flawed as we are.

We are responsible for ourselves.

Be well and be safe, my friends.

Sutherland

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families of the Sutherland shooting.

The blood hadn’t even cooled when the various politicians, celebrities, and “experts” started calling for more gun control, demonizing the NRA, attacked the victims for being in church, and generally getting everything wrong. In the days after the shooting, several embarrassing facts (at least for them) emerged.

The shooter was discharged from the military for bad behavior, assaulted and severely injured a child, and escaped from a mental hospital. By all accounts, he was not supposed to be able to own any firearms. However, such records were not reported by the military to the FBI (who run the background check service), and the shooter was able to purchase several firearms including an AR15. This is the government oversight that these elitists claim to be so wonderful in keeping everyone safe, but cannot abide by the laws and regulations that they are charged with following.

The shooter was stopped by another person with an AR15 who responded to the crisis. So a good guy with a gun, not the police, stopped the shooting and saving lives. This is not what was originally reported.

The person that stopped the shooter was a former NRA instructor. The media has taken great pains to omit this fact because this doesn’t fit the narrative that the NRA is the cause of the shooting by promoting gun rights. The NRA is for gun rights for the law-abiding citizen for self defense, not the wackos that go off the cliff and start shooting everyone in sight.

USA Today doubled-down on the stupidity by publishing a video that purported to show the configuration of the AR15 that the shooter used, and implied that an accessory – a chainsaw bayonet – was used. Obviously, someone has too much time on their hands to make stuff up, or has played one too many fantasy shooter games that has caused a break with reality. At the very least, this is sloppy reporting and promoting an agenda that real news organizations should not have as their business model. It’s no wonder that the media is losing market share & credibility, and is being labeled “Fake News”.

Gun grabbing Democrats introduced legislation that would have done absolutely nothing to prevent shootings like Sutherland, Los Vegas, and almost any other mass shooting (which occur with frightening frequency in gun-free zones). Legislation such as gun-free zones prohibit law-abiding people from carrying firearms, rendering them and the people around them defenseless. Criminals, on the other hand, have absolutely no problems in violating these laws. Paper, or prohibitive laws for that matter, are not an effective barriers to criminal intent or bullets. FYI – Politicians who write such laws are complicit in the murder of people in these zones.

The last time I checked, the Second Amendment is a civil right. Any lawmaker or person wishing to limit or disarm a law abiding person is seeking to deprive that person of their civil rights. This includes legislation from the 1934 gun control acts forward. While I agree that criminals should not have weapons, they will find a way to acquire them and prey upon the law abiding population. And it will become worse if the population is disarmed – Great Britain and Australia had increases in violent crime when firearms were essentially banned for the population.

There are somewhere between 20,000 and 30,000 gun controls laws on the books, yet very few of them are enforced with any regularity. Often, illegal gun charges are plead down by prosecutors to clear the court calendars. Fact – Of the attempted 48,000 illegal gun buys by criminals during the Obama administration, only 44 were prosecuted. Obviously, there are enough laws on the books concerning illegal gun usage, there just isn’t any will to enforce them.

To drive the above points home, Chicago has a Sutherland body count every couple of weeks on the average. Gun free zones and restrictive laws are obviously doing a bang-up job of keeping crime off the streets – not.

Last, several “celebrities” have mocked the victims and their families for being in church and praying, making statements that God and prayers didn’t protect them. Of course, these are the same hypocritical people that preach tolerance and compassion for everyone (probably only for other people that think like them). I’m crossing these intolerant bastards off my list of any movies or shows that I would watch.

In closing…

The media is biased beyond belief, either willingly publishing false information or being willfully ignorant of the basic facts about firearms or even the rights of American citizens. The politicians are just as bad if not worse as they are in positions of power, and they too are either willfully ignorant, or willfully malicious in promoting an agenda that puts their constituency at risk but keeps them in power. Last are the “celebrities” who have lost so much credibility in the past few weeks – they have absolutely no moral standing to lecture any of us on what is right or wrong.

I don’t know about you, but these elitists that are calling for us to be like Europe or Australia and banning guns have no problems with you or I bleeding out on the ground as long as you and I are disarmed. They will have their way, be in power, and have armed guards protecting them. We, the little people (or normals as Kurt Schlichter calls us) don’t count as we are merely a means to an end, and robbed of the means to defend ourselves from the criminals or from the tyranny that the elitists would like to have.

Which is precisely why the Founders included the Second Amendment in the Bill of Rights.

Here We Are Again

We at Wise Conservatism and Tom’s Place grieve at the loss of life inflicted upon the concertgoers by a madman.  Our prayers and sympathies go to all those affected by this tragedy.

Last Sunday night, a deranged person meticulously planned and carried out the worst mass shooting this country has ever seen.  The knee-jerk reactions are two-fold…

The first is “Why?”  To be honest, I doubt that we will ever know the full extent of why this person spent countless hours planning and thousands of dollars to rain terror upon innocent people.  As of the time of this post, little is known as this person left no note or trails to follow.  To the best of our knowledge, he was not prohibited from owning weapons, nor was he under psychiatric care.  He was a virtual unknown and not on any radar.  After a week of investigation, no one appears to be any closer to an answer.  Perhaps that is just as well as we do not need any other person to be influenced into copying this person’s despicable actions.

The second is the predictable “We need to ban guns and other gun stuff” mantra of those people who look for any reason at all to deny a person’s civil rights because of the actions of a criminal or madman.  I see this from the politicians and their surrogates who believe it is the government’s responsibility to keep the people safe.  First among the Liberal politicians was Felonia “What Difference Does It Make” von Pantsuit tweeting out that this isn’t the time to be political about guns and then proceeds to make it political.  Others followed suit while the bodies were still warm and the blood was still wet.

These people then proceed to denigrate legal gun owners and the NRA making statements like the gun lobby controls politics, gun owners should be jailed (or worse).  The truth of the matter is that the gun lobby spends far, far less on political contributions than Planned Parenthood, big business (like pharmaceutical companies), and other special interest groups.  Legal gun owners, especially those with concealed weapon permits, are not typically those that commit crimes

People that distort the facts and use tragedies like Las Vegas for political gain or power, in my opinion, are the lowest of the low, and have absolutely no moral compass or conscious.

The focus upon the weapons used are those that had a “bump stock” installed on them.  For those living under a rock, a bump stock is an accessory to a firearm that allows the user to use the recoil of the firearm to rapidly discharge the firearm, mimicking an automatic weapon.  It bears to note that under the Obama administration, a rabidly anti-gun administration, approved this device after not one, but two reviews.

The call for banning or regulating bump stocks is increasing.  The NRA (full disclosure: I am a Life Member) is calling for…

“…the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) to immediately review whether these devices comply with federal law. The NRA believes that devices designed to allow semi-automatic rifles to function like fully-automatic rifles should be subject to additional regulations.”

Other organizations such as Gun Owners of America are against any additional regulations against devices like bump stocks citing the increasing slippery slope of increasing, onerous regulations eventually leading to banning firearms.  I, for one, am torn between the increased regulations upon legal gun owners, and the horror of another maniac acquiring this device and emulating the Las Vegas madman.

Let’s be very clear about something – criminals do not obey laws.  Madmen do not obey laws.  These people have made the decision to cause harm to others in order to fulfill some need.  Consider this statement by the NRA:

“Banning guns from law-abiding Americans based on the criminal act of a madman will do nothing to prevent future attacks.”

Banning firearms will not cause a criminal from using an illegal or stolen firearm in a crime.  That has been established time and time again.  Consider this fact that doesn’t make it into the media or cited by gun-control/gun-banning fanatics:

Chicago has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the United States.  One would think that a gunless Utopia has been created, but that is far from reality.  Here’s reality:

atlas_SktWJ2GEZ@2x

Guns are still being used by criminals to kill and maim in the so-called gun free city called Chicago.  And this is while the citizenry has been essentially disarmed and are at the mercy of the criminals.

My question to the gun banners is this:  If heavily regulating or banning guns is the answer, then why aren’t places like Chicago gun violence free?

The Washington Post published an article that was originally researched at the data journalism site FiveThirtyEight.  The author, who states that she was originally for widespread gun control, came to a conclusion that she was not expecting.  The title of the article says it all for me – “I used to think gun control was the answer. My research told me otherwise.”  Some of the bullet points are:

  • Two-thirds of gun deaths in the United States every year are suicides. Almost no proposed restriction would make it meaningfully harder for people with guns on hand to use them.
  • However, the next-largest set of gun deaths — 1 in 5 — were young men aged 15 to 34, killed in homicides. These men were most likely to die at the hands of other young men, often related to gang loyalties or other street violence.
  • And the last notable group of similar deaths was the 1,700 women murdered per year, usually as the result of domestic violence.

Therefore, suicides and gang violence account for the majority of the gun deaths in this country, not the mass shootings that capture the media’s lust for ratings points and the politicians quest for more power.  The real issues are mental health and law enforcement, not whether a gun is “good” or “evil” – that is how a gun, an inanimate object, is used.

With HIPA laws on the books guaranteeing patient confidentiality, and the extreme danger to law enforcement to disarm violent criminals, the politicians focus on the one group that they can exert their will – the law abiding gun owner.  They know that the law-abiding will obey the law, although they are starting to find out that the law-abiding have just about enough of the law-makers idiocy.

Every firearm regulation is an infringement upon the law-abiding citizen of this country.  They do absolutely nothing to deter the criminal from his activities.  If anyone thinks otherwise, let me remind you of something:

  • Murder is against the law, be it with a gun, a knife, a hammer, or bare hands.
  • Theft is against the law.
  • Assault and battery is against the law.

If everyone obeyed the laws, then there would be absolutely no crime.  None.  Columbine, Newtown, Ft. Hood, Las Vegas, and all the others would never have happened.  And we wouldn’t have to worry about someone coming into the house to attack, rob, or kill.

Quite frankly, I’m sick and tired of the gun banners and politicians harping about how guns are a plague upon this country, and that the killing must stop.  They quickly forget that law abiding people use guns to hunt and for self-defense from the same predators that would use guns to harm them.  And by the way, they also forget that the right to bear arms is as much a civil right as there is a right to free speech.

However, if these same people are really concerned about human life, then they should concentrate their efforts on the thousands of abortions performed each year upon helpless, innocent children.  That death toll is far, far greater than what any criminal or madman could inflict.

The Weekend After

It didn’t take long for the POS WAH! Party to start in on blaming the Republicans, the NRA, Conservatives, and any one they could possibly think of for their sycophant to start shooting the Republicans on a baseball field.  I’m so livid at the lack of any decency, I can barely have a conversation with my wife concerning the politics of the day.  And of course, the libtards are out in full force trying to use this incident to push gun control.  So before I write anything too incendiary, let’s finish the post with a few chosen pictures:

The Same Dance, Only Worse

Eleven years ago this month, I started writing in a personal blog.  Looking back at one of the first posts, I ran across this statement:

How a President and his wife (now a Senator) were able to avoid jail while they committed perjury is beyond me except for “connections.”

How things haven’t changed…

It’s also interesting that eleven years ago, Trump had a reality show, he made some pretty bad statements that were recorded, and he was a Democrat, and this was all after a President was impeached for lying about having inappropriate sexual relationships with an intern.

I cannot and will not defend Donald Trump for his foul mouth – he is the one that owns that particular chunk of bad manners.  He has made public apologies, and that should be the end of it…except it wont be.

The Media, always drawn to any sleaze involving Conservative or Republicans while ignoring the Democrats or Progressive/Liberals for similar or worse actions, will milk this for all its worth while looking for anything else to smear Trump.  It won’t matter how much the Hildebeast is exposed for the shady dealings, lies, and outright treason that she has committed, the Media will continue to shield her as much as possible.

And I cannot for the life of me understand why.  I can speculate, but I do not understand why the Media would support a person that does not respect the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the laws of this land.  For instance –

During the second debate, both candidates were asked “What would you prioritize as the most important aspect of selecting a Supreme Court justice?”  The answer (in part) from the Hildebeast was telling where her priorities and loyalties lie:

“This is one of the most important issues in this election. I want to appoint Supreme Court justices who understand the way the world really works, who have real-life experience, who have not just been in a big law firm and maybe clerked for a judge and then gotten on the bench, but, you know, maybe they tried some more cases, they actually understand what people are up against.

“Because I think the current court has gone in the wrong direction. And so I would want to see the Supreme Court reverse Citizens United and get dark, unaccountable money out of our politics. Donald doesn’t agree with that.

“I would like the Supreme Court to understand that voting rights are still a big problem in many parts of our country, that we don’t always do everything we can to make it possible for people of color and older people and young people to be able to exercise their franchise. I want a Supreme Court that will stick with Roe v. Wade and a woman’s right to choose, and I want a Supreme Court that will stick with marriage equality.

“I want a Supreme Court that doesn’t always side with corporate interests. I want a Supreme Court that understands because you’re wealthy and you can give more money to something doesn’t mean you have any more rights or should have any more rights than anybody else.

“So I have very clear views about what I want to see to kind of change the balance on the Supreme Court. And I regret deeply that the Senate has not done its job and they have not permitted a vote on the person that President Obama, a highly qualified person, they’ve not given him a vote to be able to be have the full complement of nine Supreme Court justices. I think that was a dereliction of duty.”

I would like to point out as many other people have is that the Constitution or the Bill of Rights did not figure in the Hildebeast’s answer to this question.  If anything, her answer – when carefully read – reveals that she wants to appoint Justices that will support a Progressive/Liberal viewpoint which is actually counter to the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, despite what her follow-up response to the Second Amendment:

“And I just want to quickly say, I respect the Second Amendment. But I believe there should be comprehensive background checks, and we should close the gun show loophole, and close the online loophole.”

Her statement about the Second Amendment is absolutely false – she does not respect the Second Amendment, and has stated as much in earlier speeches and policy conferences.  She would, in essence, appoint Justices to overturn the Heller and McDonald rulings, and sign legislation such as H.R.4269What doesn’t get legislated away and supported by a Leftist Supreme Court, she will ban and confiscate by Executive Order.  These would gut the Second Amendment rights of the People without touching the Amendment itself.  These statements and strategies are all in the public domain should you search for them.

Back to the original response – Overturning the Citizen’s United ruling is a blow against the First Amendment’s freedom of speech and press.  Stop and think about that – the Media is for a candidate that is against corporations, unions (!), and other organizations stating their opinions by running ads against or for candidates.  If overturned, then could censorship of the Media be far behind?  Giving the Liberal/Progressive penchant for government control of everything, it’s not a stretch, and the media should be very aware of the company they are keeping.

A good example of this is the recent Obamacare fiasco.  Insurance companies are losing money hand over fist, and have petitioned the Government for assistance per legislation.  The Government is refusing, so the insurance companies are withdrawing from the exchanges, leaving many people scrambling for insurance.  There are several examples of the Government reneging on promises, legislation, or treaties throughout history.  Just ask the Indians…the Veterans…or Michelle Malkin (who just had her third insurance carrier bail on her).

To rely on the government for anything long-term is stupidity at best and insanity at worst. – Tom Roland, Equal Diversity

My friends, I am beyond concerned – I’m genuinely frightened at a Hildebeast presidency.  With the polls as they are against Trump and Republicans running for the hills trying for self preservation, a Felon in Chief is more than just possible.  We cannot depend on the Republicans to hold the line in the House and Senate against a Hildebeast presidency – they have overturned only one Presidential veto in the almost 8 years of an Obama presidency, and that was for a no-brainer.  The Republicans have been squishy at best, absent at worst, and ineffective most of the time.  But they’re still better than the Democrats being in charge.

In closing, there’s this from Mark Davis at Townhall.com:

There is plenty of fair criticism of Trump on the right. Some of his conservatism seems recently cultivated, and he has only fitful fluency in its language. Doubt is not unreasonable. And some of his pronouncements, from trade policies to the minimum wage, are soundly unconservative.

But his priority list offers a shot at conservative results more satisfying than we might have seen from perhaps half the field he defeated. Immigration, Obamacare repeal, a serious war against global jihad, a Reaganesque tax plan, job creation—if he bats only .500 on these, we will see a far better America than under her malicious stewardship.

And that’s before we get to the issue that will give the next president an imprint on America lasting until the grandchildren are grown: the Supreme Court. It is an unpardonable disconnect for any constitutional conservative to show nonchalance or outright approval as Hillary Clinton plots a savaging of the Bill of Rights.

So Trump is coarse. So he has said some offensive things. So he won’t mix well at George Will’s patrician cocktail parties. So he causes the elites to clutch their pearls and get the vapors. So what? We have a country to save.

And there are two kinds of conservatives right now: those who will take up the fight to save this nation from Hillary Clinton, and those who won’t. From the halls of Congress to the cubicles of punditry, many will be judged for years to come by their choices in the coming days.

And let’s be clear. Taking up the fight means taking up the fight. It does not include mere restraint from savaging the nominee. It does not mean playing Paul Ryan head games containing tepid good wishes wrapped in a refusal to endorse.

Taking up the fight means making it abundantly clear to all who listen that every voter should pull the lever for Donald Trump. Anything less leaves America’s door unlocked for the home invasion that will accompany the Hillary Clinton inauguration.

Folks, I don’t know what it will take for you to get through this election – clothespins on the nose, an ice-cream binge, Jack Daniels, or what ever else – we do need to vote for the one chance that this country has, no matter how uncouth or unpalatable their actions have been in the past.  And that person is Donald Trump, (and yes, vote for any and all Republicans running for Congress, state, and local offices).
