The words titling this post were uttered by Benjamin Franklin when asked what government the Continental Congress had created. The document that defined the government of the new country, the United States of American, is the Constitution.
This is the day after the Fourth of July, where we celebrated an earlier document, the Declaration of Independence, where grievances against the King & Government of Great Britain were cited, and declared that the Colonies were not longer a part of Great Britain.
When, in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume, among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the laws of nature and of nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That, to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That, whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles, and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness.
We, therefore, the representatives of the United States of America, in General Congress assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the name, and by authority of the good people of these colonies, solemnly publish and declare, that these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be free and independent states; that they are absolved from all allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the state of Great Britain is and ought to be totally dissolved; and that, as free and independent states, they have full power to levy war, conclude peace, contract alliances, establish commerce, and to do all other acts and things which independent states may of right do. And for the support of this declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor.
This was essentially a declaration of treason against the King, a crime punishable by death. This fact is often forgotten among those that celebrate (and curse) the founding of this country. The Signers of the Declaration of Independence essentially signed their own death warrants when they affixed their signatures to this document. This fact should not be lightly dismissed by those who take issue with the customs and practices of that time.
We now find ourselves in a virtual maelstrom of chaos wrought by political and ideological enemies of this country. Actions by what I would politely call “the mob” are not the civil discourse that the leaders of this country would like to have to redress grievances against the actions of an out-of-control government (aka police). Instead, it is power through intimidation, and our elected, political leaders have neither the spine nor fortitude to stand up and say “no more,” unless for some reason they identify with “the mob.”
Instead, “the mob,” consisting of Antifa and Black Lives Matter with a few other malcontent groups, have a very specific goal in mind – tear it all down – government, police, all forms of current society – and replace it with something along the lines of the CHAZ/CHOP/Whatever. I think that we all saw how that worked out…chaos with violence & mob/gang rule.
Both Antifa and BLM have stated in various websites and interviews that they will continue to demonstrate, riot, and destroy until their demands are met. And then what? That’s the end? Knowing what I know about human nature, even if they get what they now want, they will want more. They have found by this time that threats and violent actions will get them what they want, and they will want more because they now have power. As the saying goes…
Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Found an article this morning at Townhall.com that is damning for the DEMOCRATs handling of “the mob” as well of the media’s complicit & tacit approval…
For weeks now we’ve watched the Antifa-BLM-just plain thugs and looters’ witches’ sabbath — rampaging through our streets, defacing and destroying treasured memorials, looting, shooting, beating innocents and murdering them. Not a single Democrat leader has condemned these things, choosing instead to pretend these are peaceful protests against police brutality. Every four years they gin up some incident to create the impression that this is a racist society that requires radical reformation and conservatives are to blame.
The media once again played along, hiding the faces of those arrested for the mayhem, downplaying the destruction of lives and property and foolishly finding racism everywhere, though this is the least racist society of any major nation on earth, a nation that sacrificed hundreds of thousands of men and impoverished many to free the slaves. The mobs march with anti-Israelis in support of Palestinians, never mentioning that slavery is a thousands-year-old scourge which still exists in parts of Africa and Arab lands and nowhere in Israel or the Western world. Slavery is, in fact, a natural end point of identity based tribal cultures, which the Democrats historically seem never to apprehend or condemn. Supporting these atavistic morons is not the approach of winners. It is the tactic of a party falling apart at the seams and grasping for any vote, despite what the ginned-up media polls report.
I have heard some of the talking heads state that the current state of affairs is akin to a second American revolution. That’s absolute fracking bovine excrement.
I challenge any of these “journalists” to read the Declaration of Independence in its entirety with the historical context in place, and compare it to the temper tantrum demands of the rioters. There is no comparison between the two. And I further ask any of these rioters, Antifa, or BLM twits to sign their names to a document stating that they intend to commit treason against the United States. And if caught, would they be willing to go to Federal Prison for a term (or execution) for their actions? After all, if you are going to commit, then commit fully – otherwise, remove yourself to a country of your ideological liking or shut the hell up. Quit trying to f*** up my country – I like it just fine, warts and all.
Let’s consider the following –
The United States isn’t perfect. There are less than stellar events in the history of the country, past and present. Removing statues and rewriting/fabricating history will not change the facts that there were slaves (Black, White, and others) brought to these shores before and after the foundation of the United States. But consider this…
The Civil War was fought over the issue of States Rights, specifically, should the Federal Government be able to dictate to the States actions and laws which may be contrary to what is legal in the States at that time. The heart of the issue was slavery – upon which the Southern states based their entire agricultural economy upon. They simply could not afford hired labor.
Rather than working to phasing out the need for slaves through technology (Eli Whitney’s Cotton Gin, for instance), the politicians of the Southern States (the DEMOCRATS) began the Civil War. While the cause of States Rights was a just one (something that we seemingly have lost over the years), the issue that the Southern DEMOCRATS picked (slavery) for the fight was an immoral one. At the end of four long bloody years, the Civil War ended and slavery was finally ended in the United States.
However, discrimination against the former slaves and their descendants continued (and was allowed) for another hundred years. The infamous Jim Crow laws banned the Negro from owning firearms, land, defined what was allowed (or not allowed), and massive segregation & discrimination was common practice. And by the way, DEMOCRATS were responsible for passing the majority of the Jim Crow laws and forming/using the KKK for “keeping” the freed slaves in line.
The United States has made a lot of progress in removing the Jim Crow laws and creating laws for equality – the 1965 Civil Rights act went a long way toward this end. Progress keeps being made, and quite frankly, I believe certain people and organizations need to get out of the way. However, this quote from Booker T. Washington keeps popping into my mind, and puts a lot of the current insanity into perspective:
“There is another class of coloured people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs — partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs.”

I’ll let that quote stand on its own, and let you connect the dots…
(Have you noticed that the DEMOCRATs have DEMO and RATs combined into one word with a C in the middle? Considering what has been going on for weeks now, that party wants to demolish (DEMO) the country, being traitors (RATS) to the country and the constituents that elected them, all in order to gain control (C) over the country.)
To the people demanding “reparations” for the sin of slavery, there’s the following –
1) There is no one alive today in the United States today that personally owned a slave prior to 1865. How in the world could it be expected that reparations be paid to the descendants of slaves, and how would any of it be proven? The logistics are staggering, and to pay anyone out of the government treasury is taking money via taxes is ludicrous and unfair. The whole thought is one of insanity, and meant to reinforce the above quote from Booker T. Washington.
2) Somewhere between 650,000 and 720,000 soldiers died during the civil war, most of them white. Isn’t that enough blood for you? Or are you just looking for another handout? Or are you just attention seeking? Somehow, I think more of the Booker T. Washington quote
Finally, an excerpt from President Trump’s speech at Mt Rushmore on July 3, 2020:
“Our founders launched not only a revolution in government, but a revolution in the pursuit of justice, equality, liberty, and prosperity. No nation has done more to advance the human condition than the United States of America and no people have done more to promote human progress than the citizens of our great nation. It was all made possible by the courage of 56 patriots who gathered in Philadelphia 244 years ago and signed the Declaration of Independence. They enshrined a divine truth that changed the world forever when they said, “All men are created equal.” These immortal words set in motion the unstoppable march of freedom. Our founders boldly declared that we are all endowed with the same divine rights, given us by our Creator in Heaven, and that which God has given us, we will allow no one ever to take away ever.”
Make no mistake, there are forces within this country that wish to destroy it from within, and I truly am believing that is the Democrat Party and its allies in the media, BLM, Antifa, and other. I do not believe I am a candidate for the Tin Foil Hat Society, but as the saying goes, if it quacks like a duck & acts like a duck, then its a duck. All you have to do is objectively look around and see what’s going on.
Yes, we have a Republic. It’s up to us, the Citizens of the United States, to keep it by holding accountable the people we elect to represent us (not to lead us).
