Just a Few Thoughts

This past week 237 years ago, the Founding Fathers declared their independence from Great Britain.  Their vision for a Free People birthed this country, but this country has strayed far from those ideals.

We have seen that trial by media, where the accused must be pronounced guilty before any evidence is presented in court, is now the norm.  The accused must now prove their innocence instead of the accuser proving guilt.  The mob now rules instead of a court of law & trial by jury.  From Girls Just Wanna Have Guns:

I was recently flying on a business trip when the passenger next to me struck up a conversation.  Ultimately, it came around to the Zimmerman trial.  I have no idea why she felt the need to discuss it.  Perhaps because she was absolutely and completely petrified by air travel.  Or because, as she told me, she has bi-racial children.  Either way, she expressed her opinion that Zimmerman was ‘going down.’  She explained that sure, Trayvon had been in trouble at school.  And sure, he had used marijuana. But her child had also used marijuana, so what?  Furthermore, ‘that man shouldn’t have had a gun.  And besides, if he isn’t’ convicted, there will be riots you know, just like with Rodney King!’

I told her I thought it was unfair that the case was tried in the media and certainly it would seem unfair if he were convicted only to avoid riots.  She pressed on and kept emphasizing the public opinion angle.  Finally I couldn’t take it anymore.

‘Maybe,’ I suggested, ‘we should execute him.  I mean, it’s clear he’s guilty right?’  She nodded, nervously.  ‘And an eye for an eye is the right thing to do, right?’  She was uncomfortable here, and vacillated.  ‘I mean, wouldn’t it be best for everyone if he were just hauled out of court now and killed by a mob?  It would save the state the cost of the trial and avoid all the mess of further riots.  A good lynching might be just the thing!’  She said that maybe he should just go to jail for life.  ‘Well, then maybe we could hope for him to be killed in jail.  Wouldn’t that make everyone happy?’  She smiled nervously.

And it goes on:

Presumptions of guilt based on circumstance, race or bad timing were the things that left innocent blacks swinging at the end of all too many ropes in years past.  Ropes thrown across tree limbs by bitter, stupid, hateful crowds as their victims shook and wept and cried out their innocence.  It’s a lesson I wish everyone would revisit now and then.  The mob is cruel and the mob is stupid.  And the mob is never held accountable for its actions; whether it acts in person or by electronic media.

Until we remember, until we think, we will continue to live in a land where men are no longer innocent until proven guilty.  Rather, in a land where men are charged, tried, convicted and threatened with death long before the gavel sets the court in motion.  What a sad state of affairs, whether Zimmerman is guilty or not.

What a far, far cry from what the ideals of this country was founded upon.  How about another example.

One of my political hot buttons is the assertion of the Left that people like me (white, over 50, male) are opinionated, intolerant, racist bastards that cling to our guns and Bibles because we refuse to see the world from their perspective and accept their viewpoints.  Personally, I think the reverse is true.

All 5 1/2 readers of the readers of my blog know that the above is not true in my case…well, mostly….

Yes, I am opinionated, and have been known to be intolerant (of outright illogical stupidity for the most part).  I cling to my guns and Bible because they protect my family and I from this world and guide me into the next.  But I take great pains to see other viewpoints from other perspectives, and am definitely not a racist.  And when I look at the passage, “Judge not lest ye be judged,” it puts a whole different perspective on how we should accept people and their beliefs.

However, I cannot say the same for others who state that they are more “enlightened” than I…  For instance, the progressives state that all opinions must be heard.  The reality is that all opinions that agree with their viewpoints should be heard, and nothing else.  A case in point is that during a Gay Pride event, two street preachers were attacked for doing nothing more than hold a sign that stated “Jesus saves and heals,” and “Repent or else,” while the other held a Bible.  The link to the article is here – Clash Daily.

I think that the definition of “Intolerance” should be changed to “Anyone who believes something we do not.”  Another phrase that the progressives use with the previous definition is “hate speech”.  It fits, especially in today’s world of the political elites wanting to exert their power and influence on the rest of us.  Let’s take the example of Mayor Bloomberg and his Illegal Mayors Against Guns (I know – it’s not the proper name, but it fits).

Many of the founding and or members of this organization have been convicted or under indictment for crimes ranging from racketeering to embezzling to sex crimes against children and more.  In other words, people that wouldn’t be able to own guns themselves because the crimes that they are convicted of are felonies, which precludes them from owning firearms.  Mayor Bloomberg himself is suspected of making illegal gun purchases in several states.  And it doesn’t stop there.

It has been reported that the email system and website hosting for Illegal Mayors Against Guns is on servers owned and operated by the City of New York, and maintained by NYC personnel.  In other words, taxpayer funds are being used to support a private cause.  Now you would think that Mayor Bloomberg, with his millions of dollars, would put his money, not the taxpayers, behind a cause that he supports.  But no – why use his own money while it can be funded by the taxpayer, especially if he could get away with it..  This is but one example of the arrogance of the political elite.

“In utopia, rule by masterminds is both necessary and necessarily primitive, for it excludes so much that is known to man and about man. The mastermind is driven by his own boundless conceit and delusional aspirations, which he self-identifies as a noble calling. He alone is uniquely qualified to carry out this mission. He is, in his own mind, a savior of mankind, if only man will bend to his own will. Such can be the addiction of power. It can be an irrationally egoistic and absurdly frivolous passion that engulfs even sensible people. In this, mastermind suffers from a psychosis of sorts and endeavors to substitute his own ambitions for the individual ambitions of millions of people.” – Mark Levin, Ameritopia: The Unmaking of America

The political elite seek to create a Utopia funded by the taxpayer.  No guns in citizen hands, healthcare for every citizen, media & mob rule over the courts, and all administered and overseen by an all-powerful politically-controlled elitist government.  Almost sounds like the old Soviet Russia…

God Help Us All.

  1. I posted a post about the same time as when this one was posted. I read this one and took my post off. The one I posted will be done in a day or so, but I feel this one is important enough to stay the top post for a while. You brought up some great points here about what is going totally wrong with America. Thanks for this one sir, for I am also in that age group of White American males that are “opinionated, intolerant, racist bastards that cling to our guns and Bibles because we refuse to see the world from their perspective and accept their viewpoints.” I also think the reverse is true.

Robert, you did not need to remove your post – I’m not egotistical enough to want “top billing” – I figure if people want to read all the posts here, they will.

I definitely think that the Progressive Left, for the most part, believe that the Conservative Right is absolutely wrong, and will pay only lip service to make it seem fair. But their tactics of intimidation shouting down any dissension, double-speak, and “the ends justifies the means” is getting old, and people are questioning their wisdom. All the farther anyone has to look is the past 5 years of the Obama Administration with an open mind, and common sense will state that this is not the direction that our belief system should be going in.

Yeah, I’m opinionated and intolerant, but I certainly believe it’s for the right reasons and causes.
reply from Robert: I know I didn’t have too, but I felt that your post was good enough to stand alone for a while. Cause it was….and is. My post has been posted, but I waited a day to do it.
