The Long Form Birth Certificate has been shown…..finally…now what?

Now, two plus years, after Obama has become president…..after many have tried to get him to show the long form of his birth certificate, the Donald got into it, and today, Obama produced it. But, instead of answering the question of whether he is a natural born citizen, it only brings up more questions. Ones that I have thought about for a long time, but never mentioned, like if it is a forgery, what took him so long to produce it, and if it is real, again, what took him so long to produce it. But that was just the beginning of it and until I read this from my friend Doug’s blog, Political Pistachio, I really haven’t given it much thought. But it is worth reading:

Could it be that as long as the people asking about his birth certificate were considered a fringe group of kooky loons, not releasing it made him look good because their lunacy made them look bad? But once more Americans began to ask, and it became a huge issue, the birth certificate issue began to make him look bad, therefore it was time to release the long-form.

Donald Trump, who has been pushing this issue of late, was not devastated at all, either. He thumped himself on the chest, saying that it took him to do what nobody else could accomplish.

When I heard about this earlier today, the radio broadcaster announced, “Obama has released the long form of his birth certificate, proving he was born in Hawaii, which makes him eligible to be President of the United States.”

Not exactly.

My fascination with the birth certificate question has been not that without it he is ineligible, but instead, why was he not presenting it? What was Obama hiding? I wondered if under the father’s name it read “Frank Marshall Davis,” or something. But as I have explained a number of times, I really don’t care if he was born in Hawaii, Kenya, Indonesia, or the moon. His eligibility for the presidency has hinged on the definition of Natural Born Citizen, and the definition of a Natural Born Citizen is not simply being born in the United States.

A woman recently argued with me at an event saying that us Tea Party folk had the 14th Amendment all screwed up, and that was why there was a question. She said, “It clearly states in the 14th Amendment that all one must do to be a natural born citizen is be born in the United States.”

Not exactly. In fact, Natural Born Citizen is not mentioned in the 14th Amendment. The text of that amendment only covers citizenship, specifically in order to protect the children of the emancipated slaves. Natural Born Citizenship is only brought up in Article II where it requires the president to be such.

Just as Doug says, Natural Born Citizens are not mentioned in the 14th Amendment. There most people think that it says that all one must do to be a natural born citizen is be born in the United States.” No. It doesn’t say that. Natural Born Citizenry is not mentioned in the 14th Amendment. The wording of that Amendment only covers citizenship, specifically in order to protect the children of the emancipated slaves. Natural Born Citizenship is only brought up in Article II where it requires the president to be such, as Doug says. I believe him because he, and Loki, another friend are two who know the Constitution better than anyone I know.

On the long form that was presented today, Barack Obama Sr. was listed as Barack’s father, and the president himself has admitted that his father was born in Kenya, and was not an American citizen, and to be a natural born citizen, both of your parents have to be citizens when you are born. Obama’s father was not, so no matter what Obama’s birth certificate says about where he was born, he is still ineligible to be president.

But, it seems even though Obama today said that we needed to believe the truth and stop making stuff up he is still having troubles with the truth…..and, I am waiting for him to stop making things up.

And where did the Founding Fathers get their definition of Natural Born Citizen?

Vatell’s Law of Nations. And in section 212 of that book, it states:

§ 212. Citizens and natives.

The citizens are the members of the civil society; bound to this society by certain duties, and subject to its authority, they equally participate in its advantages. The natives, or natural-born citizens, are those born in the country, of parents who are citizens. As the society cannot exist and perpetuate itself otherwise than by the children of the citizens, those children naturally follow the condition of their fathers, and succeed to all their rights. The society is supposed to desire this, in consequence of what it owes to its own preservation; and it is presumed, as matter of course, that each citizen, on entering into society, reserves to his children the right of becoming members of it. The country of the fathers is therefore that of the children; and these become true citizens merely by their tacit consent. We shall soon see whether, on their coming to the years of discretion, they may renounce their right, and what they owe to the society in which they were born. I say, that, in order to be of the country, it is necessary that a person be born of a father who is a citizen; for, if he is born there of a foreigner, it will be only the place of his birth, and not his country.

Now, this book, the Law of Nations was important enough to the founding fathers that Washington went to the New York Public Library and checked it out. Unfortunately, as Doug said, for the library, Washington never returned the book.

But when it comes to what is in the Book of Nations, I agree that being a Natural born citizen means more than just being born here in the United States. After the birth certificate was produced, and Obama made it known that he wa confused by all this hype about it, as Doug said, a radio announcer in California said: “Obama has released the long form of his birth certificate, proving he was born in Hawaii, which makes him eligible to be President of the United States.”

In this, I agree with Doug. NOT EXACTLY.

Thanks for the help on this one Doug.

May God bless our efforts to help get America back, and put God back into our country.
God, Bless America. Bless Americans. And Bless us to start using more common sense.

excellent overview my friend and yet the left still hides the details and pertinent facts…good Lord….
reply from Robert: And yet they get away with it…but if the Republicans did the same thing,…..they wouldn’t allow it. Go Figure.

Thanks for reprinting Doug’s post here, Robert. It is a good, succinct summation of the “birther” issue. I’ll have to add Doug’s site to my blogroll.
reply from Robert: I love his site.

One more thing. If “natural born citizen” means someone born of parents who are citizens, and not someone simply born here, then doesn’t that mean the children of illegal aliens are NOT citizens? If “natural born citizen” means what the “Law of Nations” says it does, and if that definition was what the Founding Fathers understood “natural born citizen” to mean, then I think we have the answer to the “anchor baby” problem. Simply put, “anchor babies”, according to the “Law of Nations”, aren’t citizens of the United States of America and there ends the “you can’t separate families” argument against deporting illegals. The “anchor babies” are citizens of their parents’ country and can be justly deported with them. Problem solved. And what you wanna bet no conservative is brave enough to make that argument?
reply from Robert: I never thought of that angle of it…but it makes sense. And I won’t take that bet……except that I think there are a few out there who might, if they think about it. Sarah Palin…..Michelle Bachmann…..Mitch Daniels……Mike Pence…….Dan Coats……..Dan Burton…..all are ones that I think would use that arguement if they think of it. Maybe I will write them.
