Miranda Rights? For Terrorists?

Stephen Hayes, who writes at the Weekly Standard, said on his blog, that terrorist detainees in Afghanistan are being read their Miranda rights!

This signals a giant shift once again that some in our government feel that fighting terrorism is a criminal enterprise. And it brings back the old days of the way the Clinton administration went about it. But when you start Mirandizing non-citizens, especially foreign enemy combatants on the battlefield, you are granting them constitutional rights when they are not citizens, and not eligible for them. Even Obama said that months ago. OBAMA: Now, do these folks deserve Miranda rights? Do they deserve to be treated like a shop lifter down the block? Of course not.

That was months ago. And now they are giving Miranda rights to Terrorists. What is this country coming too? And what is our government thinking here?

Now, if our government starts doing that, which they are, then can you see the other thing that has been on the horizon for ages? If you can grant a constitutional right and Mirandize a foreign terrorist, enemy combatant, then you could automatically grant citizenship to people who are not citizens, couldn’t you? In other words, the old “illegal immigration thing” where the Democrats and a lot of Republicans have been fighting the laws on the books and trying their best to make citizens of the illegals, instead of doing what is right, and prosecuting them for breaking our laws?

Andy McCarthy has written much about this at National Review Online, and he goes back and says one of the people that can be blamed for this is Senator McCain.

Senator McCain supported, when he was on his anti-torture bandwagon and was trying to curry favor with people on the left, to get their votes by agreeing that the US tortured people. One of the ways that McCain sought to prevent torture and make it illegal, which it always has been anyway, was to make it possible for what the Obama administration is doing. And they did this on the sly.

Sarah Palin warned of this in her acceptance speech at St. Paul, the Republican convention, last September. Yet no one seems to remember. She said this:

“Al-Qaeda terrorists still plot to inflict catastrophic harm on America, and he’s worried that someone won’t read ‘em their rights.”

It seems that the Obama government has been working overtime to give to the terrorists at Guantanamo rights that they should not have. They are not citizens of the United States, nor are the illegals citizens of the United States. Our own government is working to get rid of the sovereignty of the United States. And to me folks, this is scary and downright wrong. Can’t you see it?

A nation ought to have the right to protect itself from interlopers from the outside, yet on the illegal immigration thing, our government has been fighting that since the beginning it seems, and now they are doing the same thing with the enemy combatants that are being held at Guantanamo. Should we be scared? You bet! I am sure that is not what the rest of us here in the United States want. I know I don’t. I want the laws that are on the books for enemy combatants to be enforced and not changed. I want the laws that are on the books for illegal immigration to be enforced and not changed. I know that most everyone that I talk to wants the same things…but our govenment doesn’t. So much for a representative government huh? Ours isn’t anymore. And for the sake of this nation, that is bad.

No wonder, America is losing in the wars it finds itself in. We stop enforcing our own laws, how can we expect anyone else to follow them if here. Sheesh. How freaking hard is that to understand? For the most part, most of us get it. But, our government can’t seem to grant that concept.
