Charges Dropped in Duke Lacrosse Sex Assault Case

RALEIGH, North Carolina (Reuters) – Three student athletes accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a black stripper at a Duke University lacrosse team party were cleared of all remaining criminal charges on Wednesday, authorities said.

Prosecutors had earlier dropped rape charges against the men, all of whom are white, after their accuser told investigators she was uncertain about crucial details of the alleged assault at an off-campus house in Durham, North Carolina, in March 2006.

Closing the book on the case, which drew national attention, North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper said he was dropping outstanding charges of kidnapping and sexual assault against the men due to insufficient evidence.

“We have no credible evidence that an attack occurred in that house on that night,” Cooper told a news conference in Raleigh, the state capital.

Some U.S. media had portrayed the case as a symbol of racial and class tensions in the U.S. South and the town where Duke is located.

But it unraveled quickly after laboratory tests found no trace of the defendants’ DNA on the accuser and amid charges the original prosecutor had played up the case because he was seeking re-election.

“We believe that these cases were the result of a tragic rush to accuse and a failure to verify serious allegations,” said Cooper.

“Based on the significant inconsistencies between the evidence and the various accounts given by the accusing witness, we believe these three individuals are innocent of these charges,” he said.

The three are “innocent victims of an overreaching Prosecutor.” was heard on Fox News radio. That being said here is what has happened:

Three young men, who now have had their lives ruined by a stupid woman, and an even stupider Prosecutor, and is anyone making an apology to these young men?

The Prosecutor, who is and has been Mike Nifong, is one of the stupidest and idiotic men that I have ever seen.

He has shown a complete lack of compassion for anyone but himself and his desires to be someone he isn’t. People like him need to be taken out of office, and prosecuted for what he has done to these three young men. He needs to get a taste of having his life ruined.

These three young men, have had their lives ruined by these people who accused them, and it would serve the University right if these three filed a suit against everyone who did this to them from the prostitute (and I know she wasn’t, but that is what I feel about this little twit), to Mike Nifong who went after these young men with a zealousness that shouldn’t have been exibited with so little evidence against them, especially after the young woman’s story changed, not once but several times, to the Professors who said that these young men were reprobates and needed to be expelled. All of these idiots need to apologise and have their lives put on the rail for a while. But you won’t see this happening….even after the IMUS thing of yesterday.

But it brings me to another question. Why is it the media goes hog wild after some, but leave others alone? It is a great question, but one that we will never get a true answer for. Unfortunately.
